Summary To support the Science and Technology Operations Centre of the Lisa Pathfinder mission, a technology demonstrator for the LISA mission. Objective The Science and Technology Operations Centre STOC is the point of interface to the scientific community, and is responsible for the payload scheduling, quicklook data analysis, data processing and archiving. The engineer will be developing this infrastructure. Responsibilities Duties 1. Activities during the development phase a STOC system engineering Define and maintain the toplevel system design of the Science Operations Ground Segment in the different mission phases Support the definition of the interfaces between the STOC and the MOC and the writing maintenance of the STOCMOC ICD Define the interfaces between the STOC and the LTP DRS and write the STOCLTP and STOC DRS ICDs Write the STOC Operations Plans Write the STOC Operations Procedures b STOC SW development Monitor the development of the software modules e.g. Mission Planning, Data Ingestion, Simulator, Be responsible of the installation of these tools and their configuration control at STOC Perform their acceptance tests. c STOC integration Ground Segment Tests The Operations Engineer will provide service support for the definition, preparation and execution of the STOC integration tests, the Ground Segment tests SOVTs and the STOC Simulations Prepare test plans, test data and procedures to applied during these tests 2. Activities during the operational phase a STOC System Engineering Maintenance of the interfaces between the STOC and the MOC, LTP DRS and their relevant ICDs Maintenance of the STOC Operations Plans Maintenance of the STOC Operations Procedures b STOC operational duties Generate the operational payload mission planning files to be sent to the MOC Monitor the data ingestion tasks that will receive the telemetry and auxiliary data from MOCs Data Disposition System Support the data archiving tasks that will populate the archive Support the investigation of payload anomalies and the implementation of the recovery c STOC SW maintenance The service provided by the Operations Engineer will cover the monitoring of the maintenance of the software modules and provide to the developers the priorities for the resolution of the software problems as seen from the users side. The service provided by the Operations Engineer will cover being responsible for the installation of these tools and their configuration control at STOC. Qualifications Experience University degree or equivalent in a related field Experience needed in the development, testing and operations of a scientific operations centre or a similar system Good Knowledge and understanding of SCOS Database Experience Experience in satellite payload operations Software skills JAVA, MATLAB, Perl and C Essential Skills The selected contractor must have good interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a number of external people Desirable Skills Operations of scientific satellites and in particular of LISA Pathfinder or its payload would be an asset Further Details All roles within Telespazio VEGA have a defined closing date, however if a successful candidate is found before the advert expires the role will be closed early. DUTIES The holder of this post will report to the Head of the Automation and Robotics Section and shall work in the ESA Telerobotics and Haptics Laboratory within the following domains generic systems and technology development of robotic, telerobotic and mechatronic components robotic and mechatronic software systems, such as highlevel and lowlevel software for control, coordination and implementation of robotic, telerobotic and mechatronic systems interacting for manipulative, relocative and locomotive tasks. Specifically, the holder of the post will be responsible for defining, analysing, specifying, implementing, testing and verifying the above systems for research and development RD in the space sector, for ESA core activities, ESA projects and generic laboratory applications initiating, implementing and managing future RD activities associated with the above fields, targeted towards facilitating and enabling future space projects by employing stateoftheart knowledge of robotics and advanced software systems. This also involves participating to space and nonspace expert groups and communities both inside and outside ESA providing expert robotics support to ongoing and future ESA projects, by supporting the system engineering process in all phases i.e. creation of requirements, system and test specifications, by performing engineering investigations, critical tradeoffs and optimizations of critical components through theoretical andor practical analysis and testing, and by reviewing project documentation seeking and maintaining strategic partnerships with relevant players in space robotics to optimally leverage and coordinate developments in the above field and to actively promote collaboration at international level. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should have a higher university degree preferably at PhD level or equivalent qualification in a domain relevant to robotics and mechatronics. An active academic record of RD in the field, preferably with emphasis on telerobotics, haptics and robotic control infrastructures, would be an asset. In particular, candidates should have experience in the design and development of robotic components andor systems, as well as experience in defining and managing RD activities involving small groups of people. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, they should have good analytical, organizational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
