We are currently looking for a AOCS Engineer to support our customer in Luxemburg. Key Tasks and Responsibilities You will have the following responsibilities Continue to evolve spacecraft AOCS architecture including components and systems that provide both relative and absolute attitude measurements Perform integration and test of spacecraft AOCS components and software for the spacecraft in the lab Define Concept of Operation for the spacecraft attitude determination, control system and related ground systems Interface with Systems Engineering team to define architecture and design based on spacecraft attitude determination and control systems performance Perform analysis to determine spacecraft AOCS component performance requirements including performance characteristics e.g. sizing, accuracy, sensor noise, reliability, etc., redundancy, and fault detection, isolation and recovery options Specify, evaluate, and select spacecraft attitude determination sensors and actuators, like rate sensors, magnetometers, sun sensors, horizon sensors, star trackers, reaction wheels and propulsion, etc. Design and implement algorithms and software to support various pointing modes and attitude control scenarios. Software development include software components for use of offtheshelves and newlydeveloped units, like COTS drivers and thruster selection logic, etc. Design and plan payload testing configurations on the ground when testing spacecraft attitude determination and control system performance both inlab and inorbit Support spacecraft integration, testing, and delivery to launchspacecraft bus partnersvendors Knowledge of Deep Space environment and interplanetary navigation Develop and maintain technical documentation for spacecraft AOCS architecture definition, design, and development. Skills Experience The key person shall have proven knowledge and handson experience in several of the following mandatory skills areas Technical Masters degree or equivalent andor professional high tech experience More than three years of experience with CubeSatspacecraft attitude determination andor control systems Recent participation in projects developing space hardware and software preferably spacecraft attitude determination andor control Indepth knowledge and handson experience with spacecraft attitude determination and control system components such as IMUs, star trackers, reaction wheels, and reaction control system Indepth knowledge of spacecraft propulsion systems, propulsion system Concept of Operations, and flight guidance navigation and control systems and software is a major advantage Programming proficiency in one or more programming languages is required e.g. C, Python, etc. Proficient in working with Linux based systems Handson experience with programming microcontrollers is desired Must be able to work independently and in a team environment Guidance navigation and control GNC experience is considered a plus Understanding asteroid space environment is a plus Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of the German language is an advantage. Overview Under this work package the Contractor shall support the Software and Control Systems Domain within TEC the Technology, Engineering and Quality Directorate. In particular the tasks include Support to the ESTEC AOCSGNS Sensors Unit as AOCSGNC Sensors Engineer for the development and procurement of sensors and actuators. The Sensors Unit is in charge of gyroscopes, accelerometers, star trackers, APS detectors for star trackers, sun sensors, magnetic sensors and actuators, and bespoken GNS Sensors such as navigation cameras, 3D cameras or Lidars for GNC The post holder will have access to the Sensors Lab, where technologies can be independently characterized Provide regular technical Reporting of the Hardware Development as well as contribute in the preparation and execution of project and technology studies reviews Specific qualification requirements The profile for the personnel to provide services considered in this SoW is a researchanddevelopment oriented engineer with the following skills University degree MSc. or PhD or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering. Proven experience in the design, tuning, analysis and simulation of AOCS systems in different project phases. HW knowledge sensors, computer, actuators. AOCS AIT at subsystem and system level. Proven Knowledge of commercial modelbased design tools MATLAB. Ability to interface with Industry. Familiar with general development process for hardware space equipment key reviews, model philosophy Good communication skills. General knowledge of the particularities of space electronics protection of sensitive components, filtering of single events etc.. Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the outside world. Proficient in the English language spoken and written knowledge of other languages is an asset. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration in line with ESA Job Class. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday. The key person will provide support to the ESTEC AOCSGNC Sensors Unit for the development and procurement of sensors and actuators. The Sensors Unit is in charge of gyroscopes, accelerometers, star trackers, APS detectors for star trackers, sun sensors, magnetic sensors and actuators, and bespoke GNC sensors such as navigation cameras, 3D cameras or Lidars for GNC. The AOCS Engineer will have access to the Sensors Lab, where technologies can be independently characterised. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Definition and implementation of AOCS Attitude and Orbit Control Systems for Earth Observation, Telecom, Navigation satellites and for Astronomy Observatories. The functional support provided to these projects e.g. Sentinel, Earth Care, MTG, Alphasat, Small GEO, Galileo, GAIA, Solar Orbiter, includes Participation to project reviews SRR, PDR CDR, . AOCS design, analyses and simulations control loops design and modelling, FDIR, independent simulator setup, functional verification and performance budgets. Review of AOCS SW implementation. Sensors and actuators selection and procurement support. AIVAIT support test benches, review of test plans and test results. Operations support review of Operations Manual, rehearsal and LEOP. Support to inorbit analysis. Conception, initialisation and supervision of corresponding enabling AOCS technology RD High Accuracy Pointing, Generic AOCS Architecture Building Blocks, Innovative AOCS FDIR Solutions including prototyping and tools development. Participation to the elaboration and promotion of ECSS standards in the E60 domain. Providing regular Technical Reporting of the Hardware Development as well as contribute in the preparation and execution of project and technology studies reviews. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Master or PhD in Electronics Engineering, with at least 4 years of relevant working experience. Familiarity with general development process for hardware space equipment key reviews, model philosophy. Strong background in electronics digital, analogue or both, and previous design experience. Familiarity with reviewing schematics, worst case and part stress analyses.
