Primary Purpose of the Role To define architecture, design, specify and implement electronic units including PCB schematics to relevant European Space Agency flight standards. This will be completed in accordance with relevant Thales Quality Management and industry Standards. Experience of analogue design for Space will be essential, coupled with an excellent grasp of circuit analysis for worst case conditions. Experience in carrying out and interpreting the results of schematic and boardlevel simulation is important. A working knowledge of digital electronics design, FPGAs and CPUs SPARK V8 LEON ARM is required. Familiarity with the requirements traceability DOORS to support design and development process is required. Experience of Mentor xDX Designer for schematic capture and Mentor xPCB for layout is preferred. Experience of SIMetrixSIMPLIS for analogue simulation is preferred. Reporting to the Hardware Engineering Manager with technical oversight provided by the Skill lead. The main duties and responsibilities will include Customer requirements analysis Contribute to system design, definition of requirements and Work Package definition Architectural design with an assessment and tradeoff of design options Selection of parts suitable for the space environment Design of the required function to schematic level Worst case and Stress Analysis of the design to ensure reliable operation A working knowledge, and preferably direct experience of software design and its interaction with hardware. Knowledge of EMC and appropriate mitigating design techniques. Analogue signal conditioning, multiplexing and conversion ADC and DAC. Failure Mode Effects Criticality Analysis Definition of test procedures Creation of manufacture data packs Managing PCB layout activities, applying highspeed layout techniques where appropriate Supporting the manufacturing and Product Assurance manager during the build phase Supporting PCB level testing Supporting integration and testing at unit level Support to reviews at all levels of the design, development and testing of the unit Liaise with customers and subcontractors on technical issues Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential The position will be based at the TASUK Bristol office but up to 20 of work may need to be conducted at subcontractors or customer premises, typically in UK or Europe. Our client is looking for a Space Electronics System Engineer to join our growing design team dedicated to developing innovative electronic systems for Space applications. The role will involve the design, development, test and documentation activities related to new space based electronics avionics equipment. The ideal candidate is a detail oriented allrounder with a mix of experience in electronic design and technical analysis who can take responsibility for endtoend delivery of project deliverable. The successful candidate will be a selfstarter who can demonstrate initiative and problemsolving capability and ideally with some experience in the design and development of space electronic systems operating in the challenging space environment. An important part of the role will require excellent communications skills to interface with the customer technical team and with the internal departments who are delivering items and services to the project. The new Space Systems Engineer will report directly to the Design Engineering Manager and work under minimal supervision while assuming responsibility for their assigned tasks with a sense of urgency and attention to detail to deliver the technical solution to our customer on time and within budget. Position Responsibilities Review customers requirements to determine the first iteration of technical solution. Analyse the proposed solution to determine compliance with relevant standards and constraints. Create relevant technical, planning and reporting documentation as required. Develop and execute engineering, qualification and acceptance tests on space electronic systems. Collaborate with other members of productsystem design and production teams. Liaison with hardware and software designers, technical management and 3rd party vendors. Provide proactive evaluation of schedules to manage programme technical risk. Ensure engineering activities are carried out within budget and suggest improvements. Manage and continually develop your personal knowledge and skill base. Provide regular reports to management with detailed reviews of project performance and risk. Contribute to daily weekly monthly Engineering team reviews. Minimum Education requirements Honours Degree in a relevant STEM subject or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above. Essential Skills and Experience Minimum of 5 years experience in a relevant Space Electronics Systems Engineering environment.
