ZTE reports 20% better underlying profit in Q1

(Telecompaper) ZTE said operating revenues for the first quarter slipped to CNY 21.48 billion from 22.02 billion the year before, and that the net profit declined to CNY 780 million from 863 million year-on-year. The net profit after extraordinary items however rose 20.5 percent to CNY 160 million. Basic earnings per share went to CNY 0.18.

China Mobile picks Huawei, ZTE to deploy 200,000 5G base stations

(Telecompaper) Huawei and ZTE won China Mobile's latest tender of 5G contracts. Huawei and ZTE will deploy 200,000 5G base stations, or up to 85 percent of the base stations included in the project, Caixin reports, citing a China Mobile statement. The overall project will see the deployment of 232,143 5G wireless network base stations in 28 provincial-level regions.

US DoJ to probe ZTE for alleged corruption, bribery - report

(Telecompaper) The US Justice Department has started a new investigation into China's ZTE, saying the company may have accepted bribes in exchange for certain international contracts, NBC News reported. The company pleaded guilty three years ago of violating US sanctions against Iran and North Korea. The company agreed to undergo scrutiny for a number of years and to pay USD 1.4 billion in fines. It has now ended that probation period.

FCC tells operators to report on costs of replacing ZTE, Huawei equipment
