We are supporting the European Space Agency with highly qualified services at the European Space Operations Centre ESOC in DarmstadtGermany. For a new service position at the ESA Space Debris Office see httpwww.esa.intEnablingSupportOperationsgseESASpaceDebrisOffice20 we are searching for a space debris engineer to complement our international service team! You will support the space missions at the Concurrent Design Facility CDF with compliance analysis tasks and perform debris risk assessment and mitigation analyses see httpswww.esa.intEnablingSupportSpaceEngineeringTechnologyConcurrentDesignFacility. Further you will run routine operations of ESAs conjunction event prediction system and contribute to the evolution and upgrade of this system. You will perform detailed analysis and consultancy in the case of a highrisk conjunction event in liaison with the Flight Control Teams, external customers and Flight Dynamics. You will further contribute to the missions launch and early orbit phases where expertise on space debris is required, to the development of the Consolidated Astrodynamics Platform, Debris Mitigation Facility, and applications based on them and to the maintenance of ESAs DISCOS database system and systems based thereon. Essential Skills The ideal candidate we are looking for contributes to our service team with a throughout understanding of the way of working the following entities The ESTEC CDF The InterAgency Space Debris Coordination Committee IADC The ESA Space Safety Program The ESOC flight dynamics and spacecraft control teams and brings along the following characteristics Proficiency in classical and orbit mechanics and orbit determination aspects, incl. familiarity with related coordinate systems reference frames Profound expertise of space debris matters observation, modelling, mitigation, risk assessment Detailed understanding of space surveillance techniques and principles Good knowledge of reentry aerothermodynamics principles and tools Ability to define, implement, validate and operate software which applies the above solutions, using Fortran, C and Python as main programming language knowledge of UnixLinux and scripting languages is a valuable asset. Software design and development engineering Knowledge about database systems, especially SQL Knowledge about software life cycle documentation A high sense of operational responsibility and good communication and presentation skills. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Negotiation skills Ability to work independently.
