We are currently looking for a System Engineer for BepiColombo Science Operations to support our customer in Spain. BepiColombo Science Operations System Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities In this role you will be working at ESAs European Space Astronomy Centre ESAC and will support the BepiColombo mission. You will have the following responsibilities Develop and maintain the BepiColombo Data Processing System DPS including Implementation of the pipelines under SGS development responsibility Integration within the BepiColombo Archive Core System BSCS of the pipelines developed and delivered to SGS Development and implementation of the data processing monitoring and control facilities and the different data transfer mechanisms Participate in the development and maintenance of the other BSCS subsystems Contribute to the installation and setup of the Configuration Control tools used by the BSCS, and in the definition and implementation of the BSCS software development environment. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in a scientific or technical field Several years experience in software development and software engineering with good understanding of space operations Experience with and knowledge of Programming languages Java, IDL and C and scripting in Unix environments Graphical User Interface GUI development and maintenance Development of data structures, administration of relational Databases, MySQL and ORACLE Provision and maintenance of tests harnesses Development of Web Applications Knowledge of XML and experience in mapping XML files to Java Objects Knowledge of inter process communication, scientific processing, data analysis and science mission planning and instrument commanding would be an advantage Experience with configuration and version control and software building tools Knowledge of ECSS standards for software development Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. VN1408 In this role, you will play a leading part in all activities related to inorbit operations support for the EUMETSAT Metop satellites and preparatory activities for additional MetopC and future MetopSecond Generation satellites, along with other Low Earth Orbit LEO missions. This will involve coordinating a team of Spacecraft Operations Engineers focused on improving the reliability and robustness of satellites and related ground systems, with particular emphasis on enhancing processes and tools. Notably, you will be working with our satellite simulator and onboard software maintenance tools, whilst initiating operations rehearsals and improving training. Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline, you will bring sound professional experience of LEO satellite operations, preferably gained via a leading position in the development or operation of an Earth Observation space system. This will have given you proven ability to understand and synthesise complex issues, coupled with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. Finally, you should be fluent in English and have some knowledge of French.
