Mission In general, the tasks of this Key Person will be towards the provision of support to the LI product development within EUMETSATs Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP. Within RSP, the Key Person will work in the team of the Atmospheric and imaging Applications AIA in the group responsible for the scientific product development. It is expected that the tasks of the Key Person will include support to the MTG programme for the LI instrument in the following areas Development and evaluation of appropriate filtering techniques Development of a reference processor for LI, from Level 0 to Level 2 with emphasis on filtering false events in the Level 0 data to optimise detection efficiency Provision of an Algorithm Theoretical baseline Document ATBD for the LI processing Conducting external studies and analysing study results. As lightning and convective activity in the atmosphere are closely related, the Key Person will be required to support activities concerning specific cloud products obtained from the optical imaging instrument onboard MTG Flexible Combined Imager, FCI. This includes Support for the utilisation of EUMETSAT cloud products, in severe storm situations Support of the development of advanced cloud models for use in remote sensing using passive VIS IR measurements, e.g. through literature studies Obtaining, classifying and analysis of validation data, e.g. the ATrain satellite observations see httpatrain.nasa.gov, for the EUMETSAT cloud products. Profile The Key Person shall have, as a prerequisite, a university degree or comparable qualifications in Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics or related subjects, and a demonstrated experience in the area of satellite meteorology or satellite data processing. Furthermore, at least 3 years experience in software development in a Linux or Unix environment is required, together with at least 3 years experience in CC, preferably also in Fortran90. Knowledge on lightning processes, lightning detection systems ground or space based and on the general atmospheric processes in convective situations would be a distinct advantage. Furthermore, experience with graphics packages like IDL or Matlab would be a distinct advantage. Fluency in English is mandatory. Configuration Management Consultancy Support for the MTG Programme 1313074 Job Description The general task of the Key Person will be to provide support and advice to the GEO Configuration, Documentation and Information Manager as Configuration Management Engineer. It is foreseen, that the detailed tasks of the Key Person will include as a minimum Managing the documentation under configuration control according to the agreed procedures and supporting the issue of relevant configuration listsreports. Act as secretary of Configuration Control Board meetings, prepare and convene the meetings, analyse the proposed engineering changes, prepare the relevant Minutes of Meeting, and notify the external entities as necessary. Follow up the change process with the related action items, to ensure timely information on the change status. Createmodifydelete and track versions of hardware and software items and documentation according to the evolution of the configured items. Determine the hardware and software configuration by performing configuration audits and operating the installed configuration audit functions. Maintain the configuration management database. Support review and update of the Product Documentation Trees, generate and maintain the Configuration Item lists. Support reviews and update of the System and Ground Segment Configuration Management Plans. Support the definition and maintenance of Baselines at System and Ground Segment Levels. Support the definition and maintenance of Configuration Management procedures. Support establishing and maintaining a configuration database implementing configuration status accounting. Issue Configuration Status Accounting Reports for the configuration items under direct EUMETSAT responsibility as necessary. Support the maintenance of the Documentation Management Plan and related procedures, with particular emphasis to the interaction between DM and CM. Support the definition of Configuration Management Requirements. Participate in formal technical reviews on behalf of the Configuration Manager. Attend technical meetings on behalf of the Configuration Manager. Support Reviews organised at EUMETSAT, coordinating the distribution of the data package to the reviewers, and tracking the actions originated by the Review. Required Skills and Experience 5 years experience in managing the configuration of complex systems, with focus on large distributed ground software systems, and good understanding of the CM processes for the space segment Hardware and software.. Experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with the minimum of supervision, good team working skills and strong action achievement orientation. Proven knowledge of configuration management procedures. Significant experience in software configuration management e.g. Flight and Ground and experience with Configuration Management Methods and Techniques. Extensive knowledge of Configuration Management Standards, e.g. ECSSMST 40C, ISO 10007, EIA649 and GEIAHB649. Experience with Configuration Management Tools. Very good communication and team working skills. Being able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, in particular when applying the applicable Configuration Management standards and processes. Fluency in English. Desirable Skills and Experience Hands on knowledge working with Serena Dimensions. Experience acquired in the frame of European Space Projects. Ground Stations Engineering Support 1313073 Job Description The Ground Stations play a key role in Space and Ground Segment operations, the Key person will therefore be expected to acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the Ground Segment, particularly in the areas of spacecraft TTC and payload data transfer. The Key person shall divide his time and expertise, according to the workload, between the various programs to support the long term evolution and maintenance of the EUMETSAT Ground Stations. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Investigation and rectification of anomalies reported by the operationsmaintenance team. Interface with the maintenance services providers at a technical level. Reporting on the performance of the Ground Stations and associated systems together with a status report of any ongoing activities. Attendance at the relevant coordination meetings to plan and schedule Ground Station activities ensuring compliance with Operational activities and constraints. Provision of Ground Stations support to operations during critical mission phases, pre and post launch i.e. SVT, LEOP, IOT and contingency. Maintenance of operational Ground Stations procedures, databases and documentation in accordance with the configuration management and quality assurance practices. Provision of technical support during the creation of maintenance agreements and contracts. Assist with the preparation or evaluation of proposals for modificationsimprovements to the Ground Stations and associated equipment. Planning and scheduling the implementation, testing and validation phases of any modificationsimprovements. In performing these tasks, the key person shall apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards and quality management procedures. Required Skills and Experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Minimum of 5 years experience in the Operations and Maintenance of Large Ground Stations andor Ground Stations EngineeringIntegration used for GEO andor LEO missions. Ground Station design, integration and testing, particularly in the areas of Antenna, RF, Base Band and Tracking subsystems, including the generation of Requirement definition and ICD specifications. Operation and configuration of various types of Baseband equipment including integrated TTC and ranging systems i.e. Cortex type and High Data Rate Modulators and Demodulators. Maintenance and Operation of large Ground Stations particularly in Local and Remote MC including databases and automated procedures, redundancy management, Site Infrastructure and liaison with Service providers. Analogue and digital modulationdemodulation schemes used on the Ground to Space interface for TTC, Mission data transmission and Data Collection Systems. Execution of Spacecraft interface verification testing, prior to launch in support of the SVT, and post launch in the form of RF IOT as part of Spacecraft Commissioning. The Key person should be used to working proactively within a small team, being able to work with the minimum of supervision. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. The ability to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, and working calmly and correctly under stress, is essential. Good communications skills, to allow the effective communication of information under a variety of circumstances with the operational team. Fluency in English. knowledge of French would be an advantage. Desirable Skills and Experience Knowledge and experience of some of the following subjects would be considered as a distinct advantage Implementation of relevant ECSS standards and CCSDS recommendations concerning Space Link Services and Space Link Extension SLE protocols.
