Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. reported its less-than-truckload tons per day increased 7.7% in July and 5.8% in August year-over-year, while revenue dipped amid constraints on fuel surcharges. The growth in LTL shipments in July and August was consistent with the company's long-term growth trends, CEO David Congdon said in a statement.

Freight train derails at Port of Charleston terminal

A Norfolk Southern train delivering a rail car to the Port of Charleston derailed Monday at the Columbus Street Terminal, but no injuries or damage were reported. Susan Terpay, director of public relations for Norfolk Southern Corp., said the rail car's wheels went off the track and, while that is termed a derailment, the car did not turn over.

Area officials begin firming up new North Florida logistics freight zone

In an effort to get ahead of the curve, the Northeast Florida region is trying to be the first in the state to have a freight logistics zone identified and ready to go, following new state legislation that that prioritizes such designations. The state law, passed earlier this summer and championed by local representative Lake Ray, emphasizes the importance of zones within Florida that have a bulk of the state's logistics industry - areas such as Northeast Florida.
