ISS Ground Segment and IT Engineer

Summary objective Support our team at the Microgravity User Support Center at DLR Kln and be responsible for the development, testing and administration of ground segment aspects and projects within the International Space Station programme at MUSC. This is an ideal position for a junior to middle experienced IT engineer to gain practical experience within the space sector and experience as Ground Controller within the ISS project. We are looking for a motivated talented engineer who can think out of the box and work independently. Responsibilities Duties Development, testing, configuration control and administration of various virtual data processing systems within the ISS ground segment, incl. data protection and mission control systems as well as network and firewall interfaces. Development, testing, configuration and administration of a distributed network capable of supporting the communication of telemetry, telecommand, voice, video and other forms of media within the ISS ground segment Onconsole mission support as certified ground controllerdata command engineer campaign mode Compilation of test plans, procedures and reports for operational interfaces Development and implementation of a central data protection system for mission data Conceptual design, implementation and testing of virtual clientserver systems for mission networks in line with existing IT security regulations and in collaboration with external partners Troubleshootingfailure analysis and failure recovery within clientserver environments and virtual networks Support service for intranet PCs and workstations according to a suitable Change Management ITIL Provision of project documentation incl. configuration control and documentation management IT support of development project involving robotics and virtual reality systems Qualifications Experience A relevant university degree in Information Technology or equivalent Working experience in the administration of Debian, SuseLinux and WindowsServer systems incl. SW development tools and SW development A working understanding of major network protocols to include at least TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, FTP HTTP and SSH Essential Skills Competency in settingup and operations of networks Good and detailed knowledge in the areas of networksvirtual networks LAN, WLAN , of network protocols OSI, NTP, DHCP, LDAP, network components and of firewall systems Sophos, nftables Technical knowledge in the area of virtualization Hypervisor VMware vSphere and KVM and in backup protection for virtual systems incl. failover protection Failover, Groovy Knowledge of physical and logical interfaces of mission control center equipment Experience with data, document and generic managementsystems Sound knowledge in IT security for networks Very good command of the English language Desirable Skills Ground Controller certification or prior experience in the ISS domain would be an asset.

You will act as the final MP interface with shop floor, Project Team and with end Customer. The successful candidate will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake the role. Act as technical authority for the qualification of materials and processes review of qualification test plansreports and interpretation of data. Provide MP leadership to the Project Team at various Project review milestones Spacecraft level PDR, CDR, QAR etc.. Act as the final interface on behalf of Project Team in terms of MP with the final Customer. Support MP related RD activities. Compile database of qualified Materials and Processes used in the manufacture of satellite. Indepth knowledge and commercial experience in materials science. Knowledge of reasons for choosing MP for spaceaerospace applications. Demonstrable skill for conducting qualification test programmes for specific applications. Demonstrable experience of various joining methods welding, soldering, brazing, adhesive bonding. Working knowledge of surface treatmentsfinishes plating, painting, anodising. Experience of managing supplierssubcontractors from MP perspective. Proven written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems structure panels, propulsion systems, avionics, thermal subsystems, communication subsystem, Antennae, Solar Array etc. would be an advantage. Your Materials Engineering knowledge properties and applications of a wide range of metallic and nonmetallic materials will also be sought in the identification of new materials and processes for future applications.
