We are looking to recruit for our client a FEM Structural Engineer This is a permanent position at our clients headquarters in Munich, Germany. In this Small to Medium Enterprise you will find an excellent and modern working environment with very challenging tasks and responsibilities. Your Tasks Include The postholder will substantially be involved in space flight hardware projects as well as in technology development projects in the area of structural analysis for reflector antennas, lightweight structures, deployable structures, electronic housings, radiators and new materials. The main tasks of the post include the following Structural Analysis Establishment of FiniteElementModels for Components up to very complex mechanical subsystems or large deployable structures Quasistatic analysis Dynamic analysis Thermoelastic analysis with input from thermal analysis engineers Nonlinear analysis Laminate analysis Documentation of results. Design Recommendations Recommendations to mechanical design as output from the structural analysis input to mechanical design engineers for large projects If possible establishment of mechanical CAD design in parallel to analysis depending on the size of the project. Test campaigns Definition of vibration test levels Communication with relevant test facility personnel Test prediction Correlation of numerical model with test results Onsite test results analysis and redefinition of test levels Documentation of results. Your Profile Qualification The following are essential qualifications qualities of the successful candidate More than 4 years of experience in FEM structural analysis Good skills in ANSYS workbench andor NASTRANFEMAP Knowledge in lightweight constructions for aerospace applications Experience in analysis of CFRP structures Experience in vibration test campaigns Ability and motivation to report the analysis results in respective documentation Ability and motivation to present the analysis results in meetings with Customers Good knowledge in German at least listeningunderstanding Good knowledge in English writing and speaking MS office SW tools minimum MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point. Masters degree in mechanicalaerospace engineering or physics Autonomous working approach, accurate working results Loyalty, team spirit and reliability. Desirable 7 years or more of relevant experience CAD design capabilities and knowledge in CADtools preferred INVENTOR Experience in test engineering or lead and definition of subsystem tests Knowledge in space flight hardware projects and respective environmental requirements Knowledge about ESA ECSS standards Knowledge in vibroacousticanalyses Knowledge in thermal analyses. Structural Engineer Solar Arrays Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the team, you will have the following responsibilities Perform structural analyses at the level of the solar array and its subassemblies e.g. stress analysis, including thermoselastic effects Perform rigid body simulations using MSC ADAMS Establish and document the technical baseline hardware and software Identify safety margins and establish the compliance with performance requirements Predict test results, for instance for sine vibration and acoustic noise tests Analyse the variation with test measurements Revised the mathematical models in conformity with test results Flow down the performance requirements to lower level elements Contribute to technical solutions to customer requirements Coordinate, supervise and evaluate qualification tests at the sample substrate level and the level of the solar array panels Act as the focal point for the Windchill configuration management tool. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Ideally you will have an education as a structural engineer within an aerospace context We anticipate the successful applicant will have 3 years space experience and will be familiar with the space project lifecycle, especially the design and test phases Experience in structural dynamics Experienced user of the NASTRAN and PATRAN software Familiarity with configuration management, ideally including the Windchill tool. Strong German language skills are highly desirable Previous experience with solar arrays is highly desirable Experience with the CATIA software V5 is desirable Experience in structural design is desirable User level familiarity with the MSC ADAMS software packages is desirable Fluency in English is mandatory Strong German language skills are highly desirable. DUTIES Deployed in the Structures Section of the Structures and Mechanisms Division, the postholder will provide functional support to spacecraft and payload projects in the areas of mechanical systems, structural design and verification, manufacturing, structural dynamics and application of lightweight structures. The incumbent will also participate in conceptual and feasibility studies and provide support to the Agencys technology RD activities. The main tasks will include the following participating in feasibility studies for the preparation of specifications and analysis of industrial proposals providing functional support to approved projects and feasibility studies in relation to all aspects of mechanical systems and configuration, structural design, analysis and mechanical testing identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution, which includes evaluating complete mechanical systems performing structural analysis as required to support the development of structure subsystems participating in major reviews of spacecraft, launchers and payloads establishing and evaluating specifications for the development and qualification of spacecraft system and subsystem structures with respect to defining requirements for environmentinduced loads, model development philosophy and relevant verification methods participating in the definition and execution of Agency standards and technology programmes with special emphasis on mechanical system and configuration aspects, lightweight structures, structural dynamics and advanced structural materials technologies supporting activities on structural integrity, evaluation of loads during the life of the structures and their impact in overall verification, including establishment of specifications, design, analysis, inspection and testing supporting concurrent design activities regarding mechanical systems aspects contributing to the dissemination of the results of activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree in mechanical or aeronautical engineering, plus several years of experience of spacecraft and payload structures and structural analysis. A good knowledge of mechanical systems and advanced methods of structural development and verification is required. Experience in concurrent engineering and interfaces with other space disciplines would be an asset. Candidates should preferably also have experience in the execution of spacecraft and payload reviews, ideally acquired in the area of stable spacecraft structures. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. Candidates should also have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to problemsolving and an interest in innovative technologies. For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
