The TTPO is responsible for defining the overall approach and strategy for the transfer of space technologies including the incubation of startup companies and their funding. The technology transfer process is carried out in several different ways by the Technology Transfer Network TTN involving technology brokers. through national technology transfer initiatives NTTI. through opportunities announced on the Technology Transfer Forum online market place. through a number of other initiatives. The Head of the TTPO requires a Technology Transfer Officer who will focus on liaising with scientists and engineers at ESA particularly ESTEC with a view to familiarizing himselfherself with the technological developments taking place within the Agency and under ESA contracts. Such an activity will complement the activities of the technology brokers in the TTN into which the output of the ESA RD activities will be fed by the Technology Transfer Officer. The Technology Transfer Officer will also be involved in the following activities Helping to make an initial evaluation of the technical and financial possibilities to transfer andor commercialize technologies identified in dedicated work packages relating to commercial evaluation as an outcome of ESA technology development contracts especially those resulting from TRPGSTP funding and ensuring that the Technology Transfer Brokers in each member State are kept informed of the companies and universities involved for the purposed of technology extraction. Helping to make an initial assessment of proposals for feasibility studies resulting from an Open Call relating to ideas and possibilities for the transfer of a space technology to a given nonspace application and ascertaining whether these ideas are feasible or not and should be conducted by external experts. Since funding for feasibility studies is limited a suitable selection has to be made from the proposals. The TT Officer will help in evaluating the proposals as they come in and selecting those for study, as well as helping to select the expert who will carry out the study, and subsequently monitoring progress. The TT Officer will also be expected to follow developments and provide support where necessary to the brokers under the National Technology Transfer Initiative. The TT Officer will also help actively contribute to other existing activities, such as Intellectual properties activities, Business Incubation Centre support and all other TTPO tasks when required. Specific requirements University degree normally Masters or grandescoles level or equivalent from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent qualification in Engineering preferably space related, Business Administration or Economics. Applicants should possess a good degree in a relevant technical or scientific discipline. In addition, diplomas or experience in relevant areas such as technology transfer, technology assessment, commercialization, marketing, economics, business administration,legal affairs, entrepreneurship, innovative design or public relations would also be useful. Candidates must be fluent in English. Candidates should also be motivated, show initiative and be capable of working with a minimum of supervision. They should also have good communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience of working with ESA staff is desirable Familiarity and experience in the R D area and technology development processes, in particular in the space sector, is a distinctive advantage. Knowledge of ProgrammeProject management and control technique, method and tools. Autonomy, authority and ability to interface with ESA staff in high level positions. Demonstrated ability to analyse and synthesise complex information.

This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESAC, Villanueva de la Caada, Madrid Spain. DUTIES Under the authority of the Head of the ICT Services and Evolution Section the postholder will be initially assigned as integrated support to the Science Operations Department Directorate of Science and Robotic Exploration at ESAC, and will support the provision of the scientific, technical and operational computer facilities at ESAC for the missions under the Science Operations Departments responsibility, reporting functionally to the Head of the Science Archives and Computer Engineering Unit. The Science Operations computer facilities at ESAC include a wide variety of heterogeneous machines servers, technical workstations and laptops mainly running under Linux, Solaris and MacOS, various infrastructures storage, virtualisation, backup, GRID, HPC and Cloud environments as well as technical and scientific software, to support astronomy and solar system science operations development and execution. Specific tasks include assessing scientific missions projects and users computer systems requirements and subsequently design, plan and coordinate all scientific, technical and operational computer infrastructure and IT support related activities within the department at ESAC interface with similar technical IT functions of other Directorates at other ESA establishments when required providing overall coordination and technical management for industrial support contracts related to technical IT for the scientific operations at ESAC interfacing with ESA corporate IT services, discussing, agreeing and monitoring the Service Level Agreements required for Science Operations Centres at ESAC providing technical expertise for the scientific, technical and operational computer and software related purchases, supporting internal procurement services in the relationship with external IT providers coordinating all the Departments GRID, HPC and Cloud infrastructure activities at ESAC, in close cooperation with the science operations and archives teams at ESAC including representing the Science Operations Department in GRID, HPC and Cloud cooperation initiatives inside and outside ESA. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in computer science, space science or physics, with indepth practical knowledge of heterogeneous and integrated computing environments. At least five years of experience of IT service management andor project management in an equivalent position in computer and data centre support in a scientific, technical and operational environment in the context of space science operations are required. Experience in ICT communications and security will be considered an asset. Candidates should have team management experience, be customer focused with strong abilities of problem solving with a systemminded approach. Applicants should also be able to interface with internal and external IT services suppliers and external IT partners. Candidates should have good communication and negotiations skills. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
