Telia picks Nokia, Ericsson as 5G suppliers in Nordic, Baltic markets

(Telecompaper) Telia Company has announced Nokia as its provider of a standalone (SA) 5G Core system throughout its Nordic and Baltic markets and of radio access network (RAN) equipment for its Finnish 5G network, and has picked Ericsson to supply the 5G RAN for Sweden and Estonia. CEO Allison Kirkby said this is the start of a multi-year investment in Telia's networks, ramping up fully in 2021.

Swedish operator Telia is one of many telcos that have been gradually selling off their foreign infrastructure assets in order to focus on their home markets. Now the company has agreed to sell its carrier business to a group of Swedish pension funds under the Polhem Infra banner. Telia sells Telia Carrier to pensions investment firm Polhem Infra for SEK 9.45 bln, restores dividend

(Telecompaper) Telia Company said that it has agreed to sell its international operation Telia Carrier to pensions investment firm Polhem Infra for SEK 9.45 billion on a cash and debt-free basis but is forming a long-term partnership with Telia Carrier to enable it to keep providing network services to Telia customers. The transaction is expected to generate a capital gain of about SEK 7.00 billion and the directors are proposing an extra dividend of SEK 0.65 per share, bringing the total dividend for 2019 back to the level originally proposed in January.

(Telecompaper) Telia Norway has announced an agreement running for several years to enable NextGenTel to offer wireless broadband to its private and business customers. Both parties aim to convert customers currently getting their internet service via the legacy copper network and hope to reach tens of thousands of subscribers over the next few years.

Telia and Telenor to launch joint 5G network at end-September

(Telecompaper) Telia and Telenor will begin launching their Danish 5G service at the end of September following pilots that have been running since June 2019. The two operators offer mobile services in Denmark via a joint venture called TT-Network. The launch will begin in Copenhagen and Aalborg, where existing 5G masts they had been using in their trials, will be made public.
