TeleCommunication Systems to Acquire Comtech for $431 Million

Comtech Telecom and TeleCommunication Systems jointly announced Monday that Comtech has agreed to acquire TeleCommunication in a cash deal for $5 per share. The price represents a 13.9% premium to Comtech's closing price of $4.39 on Nov. 20. Shares of TeleCommunication jumped nearly 13% Monday morning to $4.94, assigning Comtech a $302.7 million market capitalization.

Rice Wins $2.4 Million to Study Many-Antenna Wireless

Rice University's Argos Network will use base stations with more than 100 antennas apiece to share spectrum by beaming information directly to many users simultaneously on the same frequency. Rice University researchers have won $2.4 million from the National Science Foundation to conduct the most extensive experimental research yet of wireless technology that uses 100 or more antennas per base station to send tightly focused beams of data to each user, even as they move.

Vodafone asked to pay $302 million ahead of merger of India businesses

India's Supreme Court has asked Vodafone Group Plc to pay 20 billion rupees to the government in relation to the phone carrier's plans to merge four of its operating businesses ahead of a share listing. Vodafone India Ltd, the country's second-biggest mobile phone carrier by customers and revenue, is contesting at a telecoms tribunal government charges of about $1.1 billion for merging the businesses.
