Tasks and Responsibilities The key person will be integrated in the MSG Spacecraft Operations Team. Hisher tasks in the area of SC platform routine operations and operations preparation will typically include Familiarisation with the MSG satellite design and operations procedures as necessary Support to the conduct of routine operations of the inorbit MSG spacecrafts and to the commissioning of MSG4 Support to the LEOP preparation and execution of the next GEO satellites Provision of Satellite Operations Engineer SOE oncall service Performance evaluation and trend analysis to monitor the inflight behaviour of the spacecraft, including support to yearly and specific operations reviews e.g. eclipses, reconditioning, manoeuvres, decontamination, etc Contribute to the maintenance of o Automated and Manual procedures o Operational database o Special operation instructions o Other operational documentation e.g. SOE Guide, Contingency Ops Guide etc for the preparation and the execution of System Validation Tests, commissioning and inorbit satellite operations. Support for the maintenance of the MSG Flight Operation Manual Satellite Simulator maintenance support and provision of the necessary input to the simulator maintenance team Support to the satellite monitoring and control facility maintenance team to ensure that the facility, including the telemetry analysis tools, is always fit for its purpose Participation to the activities related to the MSG Routine Operations Support provided by the MSG satellites manufacturer Analysis and investigation of operational events and anomalies particularly relating to the operations of the MSG Spacecraft and associated ground segment elements Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary Participation in the preparation and specification of system updates Preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings and reviews Preparation presentation of Flight Ops Team training material wrt SC Operations Contribution to the MTG system operations concepts for SC operations related topics Support, as requested, the specification and reviews of the different operations related elements of the MTG system including satellites and ground segments Support the MTG operations preparations activities, mainly at Space Segment level but including also Ground Segment aspects Support, as requested, the satellite simulator development procurement followup and maintenance and provide the necessary input to the simulator team Review technical notes and attendance at technical meetings and reviews Participation to the definition and execution of the Operational System Validation activities such as SVTs, rehearsals and the necessary training activities for the various operations personnel prior to system commissioning Contribute to the definition of MTG commissioning activities. Requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key persons shall have experience in spacecraft operations. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the key persons to have experience with some of the following Routine spacecraft operations in general Operations preparation of a satellite project. Operations andor design ofThermal Control Subsystem. The Key persons shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, demonstrating analytical approach and attention to detail and shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. This is a regular opportunity for experienced Engineers to work in the domain of satellite operations operations preparations in our premises in Darmstadt. This position is part of a Spacecraft Operations Engineering service to be provided to the Solar and Planetary Missions Division, with initial assignment to the ExoMars mission. This is a permanent position to work 100 on customer side in ESOC. The position should start 1st of January 2015 and the submission deadline for applicants will be the 8st of September 2014 RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Initially, the main areas of responsibility for this service are platform subsystems power, thermal preparation, validation and maintenance of the Mission Planning System, the ExoMars mission planning rules and constraints and defining the interface between MPS and other ground segment facilities The service provider may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional subsystems or systems within the scope of general SOE services. QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE A degree qualified engineer with experience in Spacecraft Operations to join the existing Telespazio VEGA operations team at ESOC. The successful candidate will be required to start in October 2014 for a duration of 2 years with further extension possible. Working Hours Normal Support The task will be performed during normal office hours Monday Thursday from 0830 to 1715 and Friday from 0830 to 1600. A 30 minute lunch break shall be taken during the interval 1200 1330. ShiftWeekend work Occasionally tasks may require shift or weekend work. Requests for such work will always be minimised where possible and will always be agreed in advance between both parties. The shiftweekend work will be specified in advance, on a work package basis, the schedule and scope for shiftweekend work. Standby callout support During periods of standby support, you should respond to calls by telephone or beeper outside normal working hours, and shall provide remote support to Operations. You may, by telephone, ascertain the nature of the problem but must be available, if required, to report to the Mission Control Centre within one hour of callout. In such a case the callout support will essentially aim at putting the spacecraft in a safe condition andor restoring the mission.
