Position Reference 976 RHEA Group is currently recruiting a BackEnd Software Engineer to support the technical team on VLT very large telescopes and ELT extremely large telescopes project of ESO, the European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Implement code that conforms to performance, security and quality standards. Ensure software development in Java. Interface Java to relational databases JDBC, Hibernate, Spring. Support the development of Java web applications. Use RESTful APIs development. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Bachelors or Masters Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field. At least 3 years of experience in backend SW development, with a major effort spent in the server side. Proven professional experience developing software in Java. Proven experience interfacing Java to relational databases JDBC, Hibernate, Spring. Proven experience developing Java web applications. Proven experience with RESTful APIs development . Knowledge of GraphQL. Good interpersonal skills, team working, good analytic and problem solving capabilities. Effective time management and organizational skills. Excellent communications skills, both written and spoken English. The following skill would be highly desirable but not mandatory Knowledge of ECSS standards.
