The Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division is tasked with providing the scientific expertise required to develop, implement, validate, maintain and evolve the operational observational products for all EUMETSAT satellites and agreed third party missions, such as the Copernicus CO2 Monitoring, as well as establishing the user requirements for future EUMETSAT missions. Within the Atmospheric Chemistry ACh Competence Area of the Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP, the Remote Sensing Scientist Product Processing Software Expert Copernicus will be responsible for and contribute to product processor prototyping for products derived from the CO2 and NO2 visible to shortwave infrared grating spectrometer, the MultiAngle Polarimeter MAP and the CloudImager CLIM onboard the Copernicus CO2 mission CO2M. CO2M is the space component of the European integrated observation and inversion modelling system dedicated to the monitoring of anthropogenic CO2 emissions. What youll be doing Acquire and maintain an in depth understanding of product processing from instruments onboard of CO2M Support the prototyping and operational implementation of algorithms for product navigation, calibration, coregistration and product inversion from CO2NO2 spectrometer, MAP and CLIM instrument data, as well as for the derived aerosol, cloud and greenhousegas products Support the development and operations of product calibration and validation activities Support the prototyping of processes for product validation and quality analysis Support CO2M mission preparation for commissioning and operations with respect to processor integration, system testing, validation and verification Support industrial activities for operational processor development, and processor specification Play an active role in relevant preparations for mission operations and development and maintenance of product interfaces to the CO2 Monitoring and Verification Support capacity users What we offer Excellent salary, of up to Euro 7,500 month NET after tax based on skills and experience Flexible working time including additional flexileave Private medical coverage for employee and family Attractive final salary pension 30 days of annual leave 14.5 days public holidays Training and development support Relocation allowance and support if applicable Requirements Qualifications Advanced university degree or equivalent experience in remote sensing, physics or other related degree. Skills and Experience Indepth knowledge and excellent command of scientific programming and prototyping Familiarity with prototyping of algorithms for product navigation, calibration, coregistration andor product inversion from spaceborne grating spectrometer or imager data is an distinct advantage Proven experience of processing of largevolumes of data from relevant space borne instruments Demonstrable experience with scientific development projects and working with user communities and researchers Excellent experience of working in a UNIX environment and with scientificallyoriented coding languages, CC and Python Familiarity with IDL andor MATLAB, and Java is an advantage Strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation, coupled with good interpersonal skills and a proven ability to apply these to the interactions within a team and between teams. This senior position will be responsible for the technical development of all flight software for our future orbital debris missions as well as leading a team of 4 engineers. As a senior hire within the Engineering Team, this person has the potential to make a real impact on the success of our missions. From a technical perspective, this role will focus on leading the flight software development, designing the highlevel architecture, reviewing requirements, improving existing software, ensuring documentation is complete and requirements are being met. In addition, as the team leader, they will be supporting and guiding the team from both a technical and people management perspective. Responsibilities Lead the Flight Software Team. The team is responsible for the design, development, integration, validation, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of satellite flight software. Ensure the flight software is created to the required level of quality and delivered on time and to budget. Motivate and develop the Flight Software Team, mentoring junior staff and establishing strong team identity. Act as subject matter expert in Flight Software development. Oversee the architectural design of the flight software on Astroscale spacecraft. Coordinate with other teams at both spacecraft subsystem and system level to identify software needs and solutions. Support definition and generation of ConOps for Astroscale projects. Astroscale is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated Ground Segment Software Engineer at our facility based in Harwell, UK. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in Astroscales Japan Office and may be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Design, develop, validate and maintain Ground Segment SW subsystems needed for operating Astroscale missions. Also, to develop small tools required for operating of the missions. Generate and update the SW related documentation. Participate in the design of the systems including Requirements capture, definition, tailoring, analysis and conversion to use cases and stories. Development support and solution testing. Participate and or support the Ground Segment verification, validation and integration. Support in the Mission System Test and or Simulation campaigns.
