Job description For our customer, the European Space Agency ESA, we are seeking an experienced Onboard Software Engineer to work at ESAs ESTEC site in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Responsibilities You will be assigned to ESAESTECs Flight Software Systems section within the Software Systems Division of the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management DTEC. You shall function as an integrated team member of the Sections development team in charge of the following initial tasks Provide support to ESA projects related to all technical aspects covering the development and qualification of flight software. Typical projects will be Earth Observation and Space Science missions. This support includes monitoring and supporting the implementation, verification and validation of Flight Software, often in collaboration with a projects industrial partners. General support to the sections internal Software Validation Facilities SVF and Avionics Test Bench ATB infrastructure activities. This covers processor emulator characterisation, simulation model integration, adaptation for reference missions and novel configurations such as Time and Space partitions TSP and multicore configurations. Note The initial project to be support is Galileo. This position is only open to nationals of EU member states, Norway, and Iceland. This is a fulltime position located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The requested start of work is September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate shall have A Masters degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. At least 4 years of relevant working experience in the aerospace industry. Experience with Software engineering and objectoriented programming. Programming languages CC andor others. Embedded Real Time Systems and Real Time Kernels. Unix based systems. Spacequalified microprocessors such as SPARC LEON, ARM, multicores etc. Communication protocols Mil1553, SpaceWire, CAN. Desirable Knowledge of Software Engineering Standards such as the space industry standard ECSSEST40C. Experience with embedded realtime software development will be an advantage. Knowledge of Space Systems and Space System Engineering will be a distinct asset. Soft skills You shall be able to function as part of a team. Because of the operational nature of the support, a proactive and flexible attitude will be required. Good organisational skills and capable of supporting multiple tasks in parallel.
