LSE Space is looking for an experienced Engineer mf in order to fulfill the duty of GOME2 Level 1 Calibration Validation Consultancy Support for our customer EUMETSAT in DarmstadtGermany. The task will be primarily to provide support to the calibration and validation of GOME2 level 1 data products. The main focus of the activity is the calibration and validation of the GOME2 UVVisible radiance and polarisation sensitive data, the evaluation of the longterm degradation signatures in GOME2 data and methods for generation of degradation correction factors, crosscalibration and validation activities both with instruments of a similar class and GOME2 instruments on MetopA and MetopB, and investigation of problems indicated by feedback from level 1 data users. Associated with this activity is the development of prototype software to support the analysis and supporting documentation such as algorithm specifications, test data descriptions and validation reports. The key person will be fully integrated in the Atmospheric Composition Team within the Remote Sensing and Products Division but will also be expected to interface with experts across EUMETSAT as required.. The tasks of the position include in particular analysis of inflight calibration performance of the GOME2 instruments on Metop A and MetopB evaluation of the applicability of the onground characterisation key data to the in orbit situation of GOME2 including radiometric and polarisation sensitivity key data including angular dependencies analysis of the longterm degradation signatures on GOME2, including from all inflight calibration sources, sun and earthshine data evaluation of methods for generation of degradation factors crosscalibration and validation of level 1 radiance and polarisation data both with instruments of a similar class and GOME2 instruments on MetopA and MetopB development of software for the purposes of analysing the inflight calibration performance and longterm degradation performance of the GOME2 instrument investigation of problems indicated by feedback from level 1 users development of software for crosscalibration and validation activities testing and validation the algorithms and analysis procedures developed provision of support for longterm instrument monitoring and implementation and validation of the any proposed inorbit corrections within the operational processing environment interfacing with experts across EUMETSAT as needed collaboration with expert groups and the wider scientific community outside EUMETSAT as appropriate Qualifications Experience Required remote sensing data analysis using UVVisible satellite data calibration of level 0 and validation of level 1 satellite data products use of vector radiative transfer models the GOME2 mission and instrument writing concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports demonstrated skills in a higher programming language working with UNIX andor Linux operating systems specification, design and coding of complex product processors testing and verification of complex data processing systems Knowledge and experience with the following is considered an advantage the remaining EPS missions and instruments quality control of satellite data and products operational product processing environments knowledge of scripting languages e.g. python, Matlab, IDL, bash knowledge of SQLsoftware build environments and tools e.g. make, imake, eclipse, insure source code control system, e.g. Subversion or CVS. Academic and work related requirements A University degree in an engineering discipline is required. Perfect command of English, verbal and written. Knowledge of French would be an asset. The Consultant shall mainly perform tasks related to mission control in support of MSG routine operations phase and during the operations preparation activities for MSG4. The tasks primarily involve the management and use of the MSG Central Facility MSG CF mission control system, and its operational interfaces. The tasks of the position include in particular Maintaining an understanding of the MSG mission, as well as space and ground segment operational needs for mission control within the CF, with the interfaces to the data processing chain and with external entities Performing the maintenance, update, validation and documentation of the mission control operations concept in collaboration with the spacecraft and ground segment operations teams Liaising with the spacecraft operations team to support continuity and optimisation of new or modified spacecraft monitoring and control operational needs that are met through mission control Liaising with mission planning and flight dynamics teams to support continuity and optimisation of new or modified operational needs that are met through mission control Liaising with ground and system operations teams to support continuity and optimisation of new or modified operational needs that are met through mission control Defining and maintaining missioncontrol operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaising with external entities and partners where necessary in order to fulfil joint operations requirements. Supplying context and initial analyses that may aid the investigation of anomalies Maintaining mission control related documentation such as facility user guides Contributing to the definition and raising of formal engineering changes concerning the mission control function, attending the relevant review meetings if necessary Contributing to the definition, implementation, and testing of any changes to the mission control application software or to inhouse supporting software, in liaison with any external contractors Contributing to the operational validation of new mission control application software, including testing of anomalynoncompliance correction and new functionality. This may include attendance Factory FAT and OnSite OSAT Acceptance Testing Participating in any necessary meetings and reviews long term planning, schedule consolidation, anomaly review boards, etc Training of personnel in mission control tasks as required Contributing to the recurrent operations preparation activities for MSG4 Providing mission control support to other current and future operational missions if required. Providing standbyoncall support as part of a team of mission control engineers. Qualifications Experience Required at least five years work experience in operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO andor Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems and their associated ground segments at least five years work experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems software at least three years work experience in operation of the MSG Central Facility system. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered an advantage experience developing and maintaining operational procedures using the APEX procedure management system experience in mission planning functions and systems as applied to satellite mission control operations experience in the use of databases and SQLrelated querying in relation to spacecraft mission control systems experience in the use of satellite simulators experience in the use of Windows operating systembased satellite control systems experience of using configuration management systems such as CVS familiarity with flight dynamics functions as applied to satellite mission control operations familiarity with ECSS and CCSDS standards related to spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Monitoring Control Systems Packet Telemetry and Telecommand standards, PUS Packet Utilisation Standard, etc. familiarity with the SCOS spacecraft control system familiarity with the EPOCH IPS MC product suite from Integral Systems now Kratos familiarity with Unix and Linux operating systems.
