Following a public comment period, the Federal Trade Commission has approved final consent orders against two Las Vegas auto dealers that misrepresented the cost of cars in advertising. In June 2015, TC Leadership LP, doing business as Planet Hyundai, and JS Autoworld Inc., d/b/a Planet Nissan, agreed to settle FTC charges that their ads included heavily discounted prices that were not generally available to consumers.

Federal Trade Commission officials have rejected a consumer group's call for an investigation into whether Coca-Cola, Pepsico and other manufacturers have falsely advertised that artificially sweetened soft drinks and food products help people lose weight. The California-based group, U.S. Right to Know , filed citizen petitions in April asking the agency and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to stop companies from branding products with the word "diet" if they contain an artificial sugar substitute, including those containing aspartame, the most widely used sweetener.

Wilmerding-based rail industry supplier Wabtec Corp. has acquired the assets of Track IQ, an Australian manufacturer of wayside sensor systems for the global train industry with annual sales of about $15 million. Office supplies retailer Staples Inc. has agreed with the Federal Trade Commission to extend the review period for its $6.3 billion takeover of Office Depot Inc. The regulator will decide on the deal by Dec. 8, the companies said.

Bayer defeats FTC in dietary supplement contempt case

Bayer AG prevailed in a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission that accused the drugmaker's U.S. unit of making unsubstantiated claims about a dietary supplement marketed to promote digestion. In an order made public on Friday, U.S. District Judge Jose Linares in Newark, New Jersey refused to hold Bayer Corp in contempt for having allegedly violated a 2007 consent decree governing how it markets dietary supplements.
