Bayer defeats FTC in dietary supplement contempt case

Bayer AG prevailed in a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission that accused the drugmaker's U.S. unit of making unsubstantiated claims about a dietary supplement marketed to promote digestion. In an order made public on Friday, U.S. District Judge Jose Linares in Newark, New Jersey refused to hold Bayer Corp in contempt for having allegedly violated a 2007 consent decree governing how it markets dietary supplements.

(Telecompaper) US antitrust officials are looking in to whether Google stifled competitor access to its Android operating system, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reached an agreement with the Justice Department to start an investigation into Google's Android business. FTC officials then met technology company representatives who say Google gives priority to its own services on the Android platform. The inquiry is in its early stages, and could end without a case against the company. Spokesmen for the FTC and Google declined to comment.

A West Virginia auto dealer, Ramey Motors Inc., has agreed to pay a $80,000 civil penalty to settle a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit brought in 2014. The FTC charged Ramey Motors with violating the terms of a 2012 consent order with the FTC that barred it from deceptively advertising the cost of buying or leasing cars.

FTC Resolves Claims Against Auto Dealers Based on Alleged Deceptive Advertising

On June 29 , the FTC filed two administrative complaints and issued proposed orders against two Las Vegas auto dealers to resolve allegations that they engaged in misleading advertising practices that misrepresented the purchase price or leasing offers of their vehicles, as well as the amount actually due at signing. In addition, the FTC also contends that the auto dealers failed to disclose other key information in its advertisements, such as the need for a security deposit, whether a down payment was required, and the terms of repayment.
