FAA is proposing $204,050 civil penalty against Sierra Academy of Aeronautics of Atwater, CA for allegedly operating 9 Cessna 152 airplanes for total of 358 flights when they were not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. Allegedly, Sierra mechanics failed to inspect planes' seat locking pins according to requirements of an Airworthiness Directive (AD). FAA Clears Path for Installation of Angle of Attack Indicators in Small Aircraft

By simplifying design approval requirements for angle of attack (AOA) indicators, FAA hopes to improve safety in small aircraft. AOA devices are cockpit instruments that supplement airspeed indicators and stall warning systems to alert pilots of low airspeed condition before dangerous aerodynamic stall occurs.
