U.S. Apparel Imports in Jan-Sep 2018: China vs. Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Mexico and Honduras
2018-11-27 21:26:34| EmergingTextiles.com
US apparel imports have very differently moved in the first three quarters of the year, depending on origins and product categories. China remains by far the leading supplier of the US market whereas rival countries have not been able to radically reduce its share in 2018. A surge of tariffs as part of the US-China trade war would of course radically change the picture. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive comparison of volume, value and unit value changes per origin and product category in Jan-Sep 2018. The report also includes a detailed comparison of Chinese price trends vs other origins, through a series of indexes. Unit value changes in percentage terms and market shares per category and per origin are also released. Our full table is available for download.

Cotton yarn futures have already bottomed out. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing and Shaoxing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Domestic and import yarn prices are compared. All data are available for download.

US may put 10% tariff on iPhones imported from China - Trump
2018-11-27 09:08:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) US President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will be meeting at the Group of 20 industrial and developing nations in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The event, set to start on 30 November, will see the two world leaders continue discussions on trade and tariffs, after an unsuccessful round of talks earlier this fall. Trump told the Wall Street Journal that it is "highly unlikely" that he will accept China's request to postpone tariff increases and to impose tariffs on more goods. Trump also said a tariff of 10 percent could be placed on Apple iPhones and laptop computers imported from China. These had escaped earlier tariff rounds.
