ESO carries out an ambitious programme focused on the design, construction and operation of powerful groundbased observing facilities for astronomy, in order to enable important scientific discoveries. These are exciting times for astronomy technology now allows us to study objects at the far edge of the Universe and to detect evidence for planets around other stars. We are building up a team of IT engineers with experience in one or more of the following 4 domains Linux Sysadmin Windows Sysadmin Databases Networks Our IT team at ESO HQ provides services for Users, Operations, Science and ALMA httpswww.eso.orgpublictelesinstralma and is supporting a large variety of activities from day to day standard tasks to support the preparation and execution of sky observation programs, the operation of ESO telescopes and delivery, curation and archive of scientific data. This is a full time position, located at ESO HQ in Garching near Mnchen, Germany. Fluency in English spoken and written is mandatory, as English is the working language. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills together with the ability to effectively cooperate within the team. TASKS Contribute to Ops Prep development phase Support Ops Prep operations validation phase and team training Ops Prep engineering tasks to support Ground and Space Segments procurement and System Responsible for overseeing activities required to customise Offline AR for the MetopSG 1A and MetopSG 1B satellites, which share a largely common platform but different instruments. In this frame the tasks include o Validation and verification of ingestion of data from the Operational Ground Segment o Definition and prototypingdevelopment of Python scripts necessary to perform all routine analysis resulting in timeseries data or events. After these have been incorporated into the CHART system by the Software Team such that their results are written to the Validation Database, the Contractor will be responsible for validating the results before authorising their release to the Operational Instance. o Definition of report structures in XML, and if necessary, addition to the existing library of Python widgets used to plot and display data.
