Security System Engineer

Position Reference 863 We are currently looking for a Security and System Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. The key person will be part of the ESA Mission Operations Data Systems Division which specifies, develops, implements and maintains all common technical infrastructure and missiondedicated data systems required for operations. This covers in particular mission control systems, mission planning systems, simulators, and new types of data processing systems as necessary. The Division delivers these systems to the users and provides them with appropriate support during the various missionproject phases. The Division leads European harmonisation efforts in its domain of competences and manages the Directorates standardisation programme. The Division is responsible for exploiting commonalities across missions whenever possible and to provide services across the Directorate for software engineering tooling. The Division is also responsible for the development and the maintenance of the infrastructure for the mission operations data systems in use at ESOC. This infrastructure is reused across multiple missions, lowering the total cost of ownership for ESOC for these facilities. This common infrastructure is reused by each mission to meet the majority of their requirements, leaving individual development teams to focus on minor adjustments or extensions to cover specific aspects Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Development and Maintenance of Mission Data Systems Specification and management of Software Requirements. Contractual and technical work for the start of a new MDS project Running the MDS software development and maintenance projects. Support the Management and perform ESOC internal activities related to MDS deployment, testing, configuration etc. according to ESOC internal processes. Support to Missions critical activities Organisation of Software Support SWS onsite environment preparation. Act as a role of Software Coordinator in the FCT. Support to missions during the whole lifetime Review of MIRD and contribution to MIP. Definition of external and internal interfaces. Contribution to the SFIRD, GSSRD, GSSTP and review of SGICD. Support to Ground Segment Reviews. Support to regular progress meetings with Project and ESOC team. Support SVTSOVTE2E tests and in general FCT activity. Support mission closure and retirement of SW and HW items. Support to 3rd Party and Special Projects Support the ESA service manager in defining the technical and organisational setup of ESA service, including SLA and costing. Interact with ESA external 3rd party entities e.g. EUD, GSA, DLR, NASA, under agreement of TR. Support ESA from data systems perspective towards external entities, in particular to recommend agreement on technical and organisational interfaces. Coordinate the inhouse and industrial data systems team. Interact with companies of new member states in preparation process for new activities. Assume the data system architect role for special projects which are not based on reference architecture of ground segments for missions such as S2P, METERON, IAP. Contribute to bring OPSGD and Data Systems perspective in collaborative projects with other ESA entities, in the context of special projects and future missions e.g. NAV, TEC, HRE. Coordinate the inhouse developments of MDS for small missions Support to study, innovation and standardisation Prepare proposals. Run approved studies or innovation works. Organise and coordinate joint projects with other agencies in the context of standardisation e.g. interoperability testing, prototyping. Support ESA as a member of international Standardisation working groups. Infrastructure and environment Automating CICD processes. Providing training in usage of CICD, container orchestration, and DevOps tools. Develop release approach using automated, containerized deployment techniques. Develop automation scripts, daemons, and APIs to reduce manual steps. Analyse root causes of issues and provide corrective actions. Evaluate new tools and techniques to drive efficiencies. Manage Cloud infrastructure services and accounts. Keep evolving system and application monitoring infrastructure. Other tasks Support tasks at division level. Support Quality Management and actively contribute to improve ESOC internal processes and tools. Support to Infrastructure data systems activities. Contribution to applications rollout, validation and operations Contribution to the rollout of engineering initiatives, applications and innovative solutions. Plan and facilitate workshops with end users, capture user needs, resolve encountered issues and demonstrate implementation to end users. Proactive identification of application domains and use cases for technology developments. Validation and acceptance testing of software and review of datapack deliveries. Contribution to software architectural design. Setup, configuration, maintenance and management of applications and environments for solution developments Use and operation of VMWare, GitLab, JIRA and other software development environment tools. Use and operation of Docker and container orchestration technologies. Environment and network setup, troubleshooting and maintenance. Support and technical monitoring of software developments for RD projects, innovation tasks, lab projects Contribution to the definition, procurement and evaluation of new RD initiatives. Applying Agile Scrum development methodology and acting as Product Owner proxy. Project management. Demonstration to end users. Contribution to standardisation initiatives and associated working and advisory groups in the domains of Secure Systems and software Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in a relevant discipline. Knowledge of ESOC infrastructure e.g. Scos2000, SIMSAT, Egos MPS, EGSCC and operational environment. Knowledge of Spacecraft. Knowledge of Engineering and Quality Standards. Requirements management knowledge of tools, e.g. doors. Test management knowledge of tools, e.g. HPQC. Project management. Previous experience with development and maintenance of big software projects. Awareness of the technology trends and interest in RT. Familiarity with MDS lifecycle. Capability to work autonomously and at the same time be able to work effectively as part of a team. Very good interpersonal and communication and skills and an ability to apply these to establish and maintain good working relationships with Industry and FCT. Ability to interface with several different areaspeople in ESOC. Negotiation capabilities. Ability to capture the bigger picture and the system context. Capability of adapting to circumstances. Position Reference 857 In order to integrate the Ground Segment Operations Centre part of the Space Systems department of this wellknown organization, we are currently looking for a Payload Data Ground Segment System Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Rome, Italy. This PDGS expert will have the opportunity to share hisher experience in the field of technical supervision and coordination of Payload Data Ground Segment engineering and AIV activities. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Technical responsibilities on SAR or Multispectral Processors, Hyperspectral and Thermal Processors, but also processing Infrastructures, Catalogue and Archive Systems, and coordinating subcontracted CALVAL Facilities subsystems activities. Technical realisation and coordination of Payload Data Ground Segment engineering and AIV activities. Realizing and supervising subsystems design down to component level. Preparation of subsystems technical requirements specifications. Definition and justification of SS architecture, from concept to detailed design phase. Definition and control of SS technical interfaces, internal and external towards space and launch segments. Engineering budgets and SS performance. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering or similar academic cursus. Professional experience of at least 3 years in Ground Segment engineering projects for space systems. Proven experience in definition and design of Payload Data SS for EO systems. Strong competences in design and development of EO space systems. Strong competences in the Commissioning activities with regards to calibration and validation of EO systems. Experience in the definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of DOORS or other similar tool. Use of simulation tools for the definition of GS performances, e.g. Stk, MATLAB, IDL, Python. Proven capability to define of GS design throughout the support of model based methods, techniques and tools e.g. SysML, UML, Capella MBSE. Sound knowledge of ground system engineering processes, and ground system and software life cycles. Sound knowledge of relevant ECSS standards. Experience with coordinating partners from different companies in an international project. Results oriented attitude. Planning and organizational skills. Capability to build trust and show inspiring leadership based on strong indirect management skills. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Italian is an asset.
