Job description For our customer, ESAESTEC, we are seeking an experienced Flight Software Systems Engineer to work at ESTEC in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. You will be assigned to the Flight Software Systems Section within the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management. Responsibilities The contractor will be assigned to the Flight Software Systems Section of the Software Systems Division and shall function as an integrated team member of the development team, in charge of the following initial tasks General Support to Software Validation Facilities SVF and Avionics Test Bench ATB infrastructure activities. Project support related to all technical aspects development and qualification of flight software. Further supporting tasks in the following areas Interface adaptations between SVF and Test Bench models. Adaptation and upgrade of ATB for the EagleEye mission Integration of TSP Time and Space Partitioning based system execution environment Supporting integration of Multicore based system execution environment Support dedicated projects SVF infrastructure development including processor simulators This is a full time located at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands. The requested start of work is February 2017. Qualifications Competencies The successful candidate will have a Masters Degree or equivalent qualification in Electronic Engineering, Space Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline At least 4 years of relevant working experience with in particular experience of Software engineering and objectoriented programming Space systems and Space Systems engineering Programming languages CC andor others Embedded Real Time Systems and Real Time Kernels Microprocessors such as SPARC LEON, ARM, multicores etc. Communication protocols Mil1553, SpaceWire, CAN Software Engineering tools Software Engineering Standards such as the ECSSEST40C The contractor shall be able to function as part of a team. The Key Person will support the RSO division but shall initially provide support to the PRD department for the development and operations preparation of the MTG Programme focussing on system and ground station aspects, ensuring they are brought to a suitable level for the transition of the programme into routine operations. The role comprises a range of tasks across a number of different departments within our customer so the Key Person will need a broad knowledge of operational ground segments and how the ground stations fit into the general scheme. The Key Person shall also support the routine operations of the existing MTP, MSG and EPS ground stations, as well as their future evolutions. The Key Persons main duties will include the support to System and Ground segment operations preparation activities Ground segment procurements for the future programmes including acceptance and validation phase Review documentation and attend formal reviews as part of the procurement process Supporting and witnessing IVV testing for future programmes Definition and maintenance of operations procedures, including system and ground segment procedures and operations guides Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Day to day operations of current and future ground stations including daytoday planning, monitoring and first line anomaly investigations Processing and coordination of system and ground segment anomalies in particular but not limited to ground stations , their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards Analysis of ground station obsolescence, and upgrade paths within a 247 operations environment Participation in technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings Provision of training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations and Engineering Teams. PROFILE In addition to having a university degree in a relevant technical discipline or the equivalent work experience, the Key Person shall have the following mandatory attributes at least three years experience in a realtime spacecraft operations environment at least three years experience in the routine operations of satellites preferably in an earth observation environment experience of the preparation and use of operational procedures, databases, displays and documentation Experience of the following would be a distinct advantage experience in the operations preparation and routine operations of Geostationary GEO andor Low Earth Orbit LEO satellite systems experience in the procurement phase of ground segments for satellite monitoring and control and mission data reception, ideally in the Earth Observation domain experience of document management and configuration control processes experience of development and upgrades within a 247 operations environment experience in defining user interfaces for operations HMI, reports etc. The official languages of our customer are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Overview The work will be performed onsite at ESTEC within the Directorate of the Human Spaceflight and Robotic Exploration HRE, in the Columbus Operations Division. Specific qualification requirements Applicants should have a postgraduate Masters or PhD degree in Engineering or Physics. Several years of experience in the design and verification of Operations related systems and products for the International Space Station ISS programme. Experience working in the international and multicultural environment of ESA and knowledge of its working processes and procedures is considered an asset. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants must be eligible to obtain security clearance by their national security administration. Being already in possession of security clearance will be considered an asset for the selection. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
