Angolan billionaire businesswoman Isabel dos Santos is ready to help capitalise Brazil's Oi if her bid for Portugal Telecom SGPS , a key Oi shareholder, is successful and Oi's planned sale of Portuguese assets does not go ahead. Mario Silva, board member and spokesman for dos Santos' Terra Peregrin company that last month made a 1.2 billion euro takeover bid for PT SGPS, told Reuters on Friday her company would consider a capital increase for debt-laden Oi and purchasing Oi shares if it wins.

Jorhat, Dec. 13: The Chah Shramik Mukti Sangram Samiti, Asom, a tea workers' union, today demanded that the wages for tea workers be increased to Rs 400 from the existing Rs 94 on expiry of the three-year wage agreement on December 31. It has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged difference of amount, which the management was paying the Food Corporation of India, to procure rice and flour as ration and the amount being deducted from the wages of workers, alleging that a scam was going on for years.

The statewide chamber of commerce joined with groups representing grocery stores, restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations, truckers, car dealers and small businesses in issuing a statement questioning the gas tax hike and other fee increases, saying they could put businesses at a competitive disadvantage.
