Energy board approves 10 per cent hike for OPG

The Ontario Energy Board said it decided on a 'significant reduction' from OPG's request for an increase of 23.4 per cent. Ontario Power Generation has been given approval by the province's energy regulator for a 10 per cent increase in the rate it is paid for electricity.

The Toronto stock market looked set for a fourth day of gains Wednesday, with commodity prices rising and traders awaiting the mid-afternoon release of the minutes from the most recent interest rate meeting of the U.S. Federal Reserve. U.S. futures signalled a weak start to the session with the Dow Jones industrial futures up five points to 17,657, the Nasdaq futures rose 3.8 points to 4,241.8 and the S&P 500 futures added 0.1 of a point to 2,048.7. Investors will be looking to the contents of the minutes to for hints about when the Fed might start hiking rates from near zero, where they have been since the 2008 financial crisis.

NEW YORK - Nobody likes a fare hike when it comes to public transportation, but a straphangers' advocate said Saturday that a hike may be fair and necessary for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. As WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported, Gene Russianoff of the Straphangers Campaign said it is legitimate for riders to shoulder some of the cost of running a system that has made some service improvements.
