Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our service support within the Science and Robotic Exploration Directorate DSRE. Aurora currently has a team of 20 engineers and scientists at ESAC including support to the Rosetta mission. ESA require an extension of our service to provide an experienced scientist. Overview The Rosetta Science Operations in the Rosetta Science Ground Segment is led by the Rosetta Science Operations Managers in close coordination with the Mission Manager, who has overall responsibility for the Rosetta mission, and with the Project Scientist, who is responsible for optimizing the science return of Rosetta. A basic principle of the Rosetta science operations is the requirement for a strong involvement by each PI team for the preparation of the science operations. The Science Working Team SWT advises the project scientist on science matters for the mission and indirectly assists the RSGS in elaborating science strategies and maximizing the scientific return of the mission. Tasks The work is to support the Rosetta Project Scientist, Dr. Matt Taylor, and will include the following Support to the Rosetta project scientist in his role in extracting the best science from the instruments on Rosetta, primarily as part of the planning process and in tracking the execution of the master science plan versus the actual archived process. Support addressing schedule resource conflicts that may arise with the PI teams during the Long Term Planning phase. Interact with the Science Discipline Groups to produce a consolidated harmonized Long Term Plan Spreadsheets for each of the LTPs in the mission and for each of the activity cases. Support the population of each spreadsheet working directly with the PI teams in defining the pointing and their operations linked to observation requests Support the creation of a proposed schedule of observations and pointing requests from the PI teams Interact with the ASPEN planners in their production of ASPEN schedules which reflect the contents of the spreadsheet Interact with the operations engineers of the Ops planning group, where required, in the spreadsheet harmonization period the ASPEN run phases Support the generation of procedures where relevant Support the MediumTerm Planning Support for Rosetta Iterate on the collection of the mediumterm planning inputs from the PI teams Support the Operations Engineer, where relevant, in support of ensuring consistency of the MTP plan at assembly phase with that derived at ASPEN level in the LTP. Support, where required, specific PI teams in the generation of their MTP level products Support the creation of and delivery to the MOC of the consolidated operational requests in the form of Pointing Requests PTR, most particularly for the High Activity Case. Support the generation of procedures where relevant Support Short Term planning collecting input from the PI teams in particular, support any data volume redistribution that may be needed after MTP submission. Provide support to the Rosetta project scientist in his role in ensuring the legacy of the mission through the provision of a populated archive for Rosetta is achieved. Work will also include support to the Observation Quick Look process in the area of tracking successfailure of observations with the delivery of the data for the archive. Archive support for Rosetta with the Planetary Science Archive PSA as follows Interact with the PSA coordinator to ensure that Rosetta archive needs are addressed in the area of general PDS and PSA software development. Such interactions shall include the provision of requirements. Interact with the PSA Software developer to check the correct implementation of user requirements. Aid in the validation of PSA software specific to the Rosetta mission, including DVAL, PRVV, APC, Archive interface. Interact with the PDS for issues specific to the Rosetta mission archive. Interact with and provide support to the PI teams in the area of archive product generation, delivery validation. Support the archive product validation process including reviews. You will report to the Aurora ESAC service manager, Hugo Costa. Specific qualification requirements University degree preferably Ph.D. in Planetary Science Physics or equivalent and relevant professional experience in science operations. Experience needed in the preparation, testing and operations of a scientific operations centre or a similar system A minimum of 4 years experience in satellite payload operations You must be able to work in English. Be able to work independently and also work with colleagues within a small team. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in Spain without the need to obtain a work visa. Only European Union citizens can be employed by Aurora in Spain. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the ESAC, the European Space Astronomy Centre, at Villafranca del Castillo, near Madrid, Spain. The work will be performed closely with ESTEC and require some travel. Contract You will be registered for both social security and tax in Spain. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual holidays. In addition to public health services Aurora provides private medical insurance in Spain.
