Sky to buy O2 fixed broadband business for GBP 180 mln
2013-03-01 08:35:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) BSkyB has agreed to acquire O2 UK's fixed broadband business from Telefonica for GBP 180 million. The acquisition of the over half a million broadband customers under the O2 and Be brands will make Sky the UK's second-largest ISP, while the sale of its fixed-line activities will allow O2 to focus on expanding its mobile broadband network, including the launch of 4G. O2 has been losing fixed broadband customers steadily for two years and finished 2012 with a total 560,100. Its 377,400 fixed telephony customers will also transfer to Sky. Upon successful completion of the customer migration process by Telefonica UK, Sky has agreed to pay an extra GBP 20 million. O2 and Be customers will be migrated to Sky's own unbundled network. The sale is expected to close in April, pending regulatory approval.
