Ryanair eyes feeder role for long-haul airlines

Airlines such as British Airways and Air France-KLM could soon start using low-cost carriers like Ryanair and EasyJet to feed people onto their long-haul routes, Ryanair bosses say. Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary said the days are numbered for how much longer national flag-carriers can operate intra-European flights because it was too expensive for them to compete on these point-to-point routes.

United Airlines departure shocks travel agent, passengers

The airline announced the decision yesterday and cited a number of reasons for no longer flying in and out of Saskatoon and Regina, including a weakened Canadian dollar and tough competition on prices. Deedee Atwell, owner of D & D Travel, said she was shocked when she first heard that United Airlines was no longer offer service in Saskatchewan.

Airlines tell DOT why they should get the Tokyo Haneda route

With Tuesday as the deadline, three airlines told the U.S. Department of Transportation why they should get the right to offer a daily flight to Tokyo's Haneda International Airport. Delta Air Lines, which now has the rights for a daily Seattle-Haneda flight, laid out why it should keep the route.

All Southwest Airlines flights get dispatched from this cool, dark room

Violet tinted lights glow above hundreds of computer monitors and more than 40 large 50-inch flat-screen televisions displaying everything from weather maps to live webcams at airports throughout the country. Southwest Airlines uses the 50,000-square-foot NOC to dispatch all 3,500 flights per day, the largest operation of its kind under one roof in the United States, Matt Hafner , vice president of network operations control for Southwest, said.
