Arctic Sea Ice Is Getting Thinner, Faster
2015-03-05 00:02:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Climate Central: While the steady disappearance of sea ice in the Arctic has been one of the hallmark effects of global warming, research shows it is not only covering less of the planet, but it's also getting significantly thinner. That makes it more susceptible to melting, potentially altering local ecosystems, shipping routes and ocean and atmospheric patterns. New data compiled from a range of sources -- from Navy submarines to satellites -- suggests that thinning is happening much faster than models have...

Effective Thermal Insulator can be made thinner than human hair.
2014-08-27 14:36:01| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
As small-scale insulator, Insulon® barrier uses Hyper-Deep Vacuum™ technology for optimal efficiency. Vacuum that results from how material is taken out stops thermal conduction. Able to be supplied in virtually any shape, material has been designed into curved-wall devices with just 0.2 mm total thickness. Product has also been manufactured as thin as 0.1 mm, but this technology is available in even thinner form factors.<br /> This story is related to the following:Vacuum Insulation |

First tablet with Intel's Broadwell thinner than iPad Air
2014-06-03 13:19:22| InfoWorld: Top News
The future of speedy paper-thin tablets running Intel's Broadwell chips seems promising, after we tested the first-ever prototype shown by the chip maker. We got an exclusive hands on, albeit for a short while, with a paper-thin tablet called Llama Mountain, which ran on an as yet unreleased fifth-generation Core processor, at the Computex trade show in Taipei. The tablet was fully operational and running Windows 8, and it wasn't the typical dummy unit often shown at many press conferences.
