US apparel imports have sharply risen from India and Vietnam in the first half this year, stagnating from Cambodia and Indonesia where unit prices have significantly increased. China has resisted in volume terms, thanks to lower unit prices in most categories of products, reflecting a structural reliance on Chinese suppliers whatever the level of import tariffs. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive comparison of volume, value, and unit value changes per origin and product category in the first half of 2019. The report also includes a detailed comparison of Chinese price trends vs. other origins, through a series of indexes. The US buyers have continued to favor man-made fiber apparel, while imports of cotton apparel were stagnating in volume terms. Wool apparel imports have rebounded in the second quarter, as reflected by our detailed analysis of US apparel imports per category.
