(Telecompaper) Tele2 Croatia has introduced a new high-speed internet service for households called 'Pokucni internet', based on its 4G network available nationwide. The home Wi-Fi router can connect up to 32 devices at the same time. To activate the service, users just need to insert the Sim card in the Tele2 router. It is especially suited for people who live in areas where until now it was only possible to have very slow internet via a DSL connection, Tele2 said. The new service provides a maximum speed of up to 150 Mbps with 4G access. Three packages are on offer: 30 GB for HRK 139, 50 GB for HRK 169 and 100 GB for HRK 269 per month. For business users, Tele2 offers a 300 GB package for HRK 299.

Tele2 Russia launches LTE-450 in 2 regions

2016-05-30 12:28:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Mobile operator Tele2 Russia has launched its LTE network on the 450 MHz band in the Tver and Nizhny-Novgorod regions. Tele2 Russia is the only mobile operator across the country holding 450 MHz spectrum; the bands were earlier used for providing CDMA services by the mobile operator Sky Link. The operator was taken over by Tele2 Russia as part of its joint venture with the national operator Rostelecom. By the end of June, Tele2 Russia plans to launch its LTE-450 network in the city and region of St Petersburg, and the network will start in the Moscow region in July.  Tele2 Russia offers special end-user devices under the Sky Link brand for mobile internet services. The list includes two models of LTE router for rural homes, as well as a portable LTE router for travel. The devices support LTE services on 450 MHz, 1,800 MHz and 2,600 MHz bands. In the initial stage, LTE services will be provided under a single simple tariff offering 4 GB monthly traffic for RUB 990.

Tele2 Q1 profit falls on Kazakhstan writedown

2016-04-21 08:09:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Tele2 reported a sharp fall in profit for the first quarter, hurt by its activities in Kazakhstan. Net profit fell to SEK 339 million from SEK 517 million a year ago, mainly due to a writedown of SEK 326 million on the goodwill for the Kazakh activities for the weak economic climate and currency devaluation there. Tele2 said it completed its joint venture with Kazakhtelecom in the quarter and integration has started. Customer and revenue growth is improving, and profits should hopefully follow, thanks to synergies from the joint venture and the withdrawal of unprofitable price plans, the company said. EBITDA was also lower, at SEK 1.226 billion versus SEK 1.428 billion a year ago, and the margin fell to 19 percent from 22. Tele2 blamed the decline on costs associated with its commercial ramp-up in the Netherlands following the 4G network launch, Sweden mobile marketing investments and the continued decline in its fixed operations. The company noted that since the launch in the Netherlands, it now offers 4G across its footprint.

Tele2 starts NFV roll-out with OpenStack

2016-03-23 08:43:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Tele2 has announced its first plans for network virtualisation. The company plans to move its network and IT functions into the cloud, using network function virtualisation (NFV). To speed service deployment and keep costs low, Tele2 has chosen OpenStack as the foundation for its private cloud. Canonical will provide and manage OpenStack for Tele2 and Canonical's generic VNF manager, Juju, will be used for the onboarding of new services. Huawei will be providing the rack mount servers. Cisco is the chosen network vendor and will provide its ACI solution. The entire data centre network will be built on a future-proof spine/leaf network with 25G/100G connectivity. Tele2 expects to have the first live application in the form of a virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) in the cloud by Q3.
