Tele2 forecasts flat sales, lower EBITDA in 2016

(Telecompaper) Tele2 reported a fall in profits in the fourth quarter, amid costs for restructuring its operations and launching its mobile network in the Netherlands. In the three months to December, EBITDA fell 5 percent to SEK 1.337 billion, hurt by the contracting fixed telephony business, start-up costs in the Netherlands and currency devaluation in Kazakhtelecom. EBIT dropped to SEK 364 million from SEK 735 million a year earlier, due to a number of one-time charges. These include SEK 133 million for the 'Challenger' cost-reduction programme announced last year and SEK 118 million for the planned merger of the operations in Kazakhstan with Kazakhtelecom's mobile business. Tele2's net profit plunged 91 percent to SEK 45 million, but the company stuck to its pledge to increase the dividend 10 percent to SEK 5.35. At the top line, net sales rose 1 percent to SEK 6.943 billion, led by 2 percent growth in mobile service revenue and helped by a VAT settlement in the Netherlands. For 2016, Tele2 forecast mobile service revenue growth in the mid-single digits and total net revenue of SEK 26-27 billion, essentially flat compared to SEK 26.856 billion last year. EBITDA is expected to fall to SEK 4.6-5.0 billion in 2016 from SEK 5.757 billion in 2015.

Tele2 names CFO, new CEOs in Sweden, Netherlands

(Telecompaper) Tele2 announced a number of changes to its management, including a new permanent CFO and new CEOs of Tele2 Sweden and Tele2 Netherlands. Lars Nordmark, currently CFO of Securitas Direct, will join Tele2 as Executive Vice President and CFO. The Swedish national worked previously at T-Mobile, Orange and most recently Qtel. He will assume the position from 18 April, replacing James Maclaurin, was was named interim CFO last year when Allison Kirkby was promoted from CFO to CEO. In the operator's home market Sweden, Samuel Skott becomes EVP and CEO, replacing Thomas Ekman, who is leaving Tele2 after five years heading the Swedish operation. He will become CEO of the Cabonline group. Skott started out as a Tele2 trainee in 2005 and has been part of the Tele2 Sweden leadership team during the past five years, as Commercial Director Residential and most recently as Director Customer and Product Design. He will take up the new position from 18 April. In the Netherlands, Malin Holmberg, currently EVP Central Europe and CEO of Tele2 Croatia, will take over the position of CEO. Jeff Dodds is leaving to return to his family and to take up a new role at TalkTalk in the UK. Malin has worked for Tele2 since 2009, having joined from Vodafone Group and assumed a position in the Tele2 Leadership Team in the summer of 2015. Malin will take up the new role from 01 April.

Tele2 Netherlands boosts data plans with 4G network launch

(Telecompaper) Tele2 Netherlands has launched its new mobile plans over its own 4G network. The operator said the new offer will bring "great coverage and great speed at the lowest price". Two years since it started the roll-out, the LTE network now covers 92 percent of the Dutch population, offering speeds up to 225 Mbps. Tele2, which previously worked as a MVNO on the Dutch market, said it aims to be the world's first '4G only' mobile operator, providing both data and from next year voice over 4G, without the need for 2G/3G networks. Its new mobile plans seek to shake up the Dutch market, with much more data than current offers. Tele2 said it wants Dutch consumers to be able to "drown themselves in data" and introduced the flagship offer of unlimited calls and SMS with 24 GB of data for EUR 35 per month, much larger than other plans on the market. Additional plans with 8GB, 4GB and 1.5GB, all with unlimited voice/SMS, will also be available, as well as an entry-level offer of 1GB with 100 minutes/SMS.
