Working as a consultant engineer on the design and implementation of a complex ground segment for one of Europes flagship space projects for the 21st century. The European Polar System Second Generation EPSSG will be challenging programme requiring the best engineers Europe can muster. The Generic Systems and Infrastructure engineering team will handle the complex task of stitching together major functional elements and ensuring endtoend performance with large volumes of data flow. The position will be covering expert support in several engineering areas and disciplines covering requirements, architectural design and technical definition of ground segment subsystems, performance, interfaces, procurement, integration and VV. Several positions are available to experienced ground segment engineers with the correct background and qualifications. The profile of candidates we are seeking is as follows Qualified to higher university degree, Masters or PhD level in engineering or science. At least 5 years professional experience in space programmes. Experience in full lifecycle development for ground segment Experience of ground segment which are designed and developed taking advantage of reuse of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements System engineering practices and experience on AIV specification and planning for large and complex satellite ground segments Experience in control and management of interfaces in large systems. Experience with the preparation and use of documents used to define system requirements and interfaces including methods and tools. Working as a team player in a multinational environment. Good communications skills using English as a working language. Project planning and control MSproject. Additionally, experience in the following would be considered an advantage Earth Observation LEO satellites. Experience with DOORS Experience with CORE Familiarity with ECSS standards We are seeking employees who are motivated and flexible who are available to start work in Germany in early 2014. Several positions are open with preferred start dates of March 2014. The duration of the initial contract will be 18 months extendable. Definition of the EPSSG system architecture and interfaces between the EPSSG elements, the MultiMission Elements and reused elements Contribution to the generation of System Design Documents and Interface Control Documents Support the generation of IVV related concepts and documents, including integration and verification plans and preliminary verification control documents Support to the preparation of, and participation in, phase reviews at system, ground segment system and element level Skills Requirements These mandatory skills will include in particular A university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline At least 5 years of experience in the following areas o Experience in full lifecycle development i.e. requirements specifications, architectural design, implementation and IVV for ground segments developed preferably in the area of 247 operational remote sensing satellites o Experience of ground segments which are designed and developed taking advantage of the reuse of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements o System Engineering practices and experience on AIV specification and planning for large and complex satellite ground segments, preferably for remote sensing spacecrafts In addition to the above requirements, experience knowledge in the following areas will be considered a distinct advantage Ground Segment and SC Monitoring and Control systems, preferably based on SCOS 2000 product. Nearrealtime data processing data circulation Archive systems Nearreal time data dissemination System architectural design with the support of modelling and design tools e.g. Core8 or Enterprise Architect Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS Configuration Control processes and tools Familiarity with the ECSS standards AVAILABILITY WORKING HOURS The activity is assumed, as a baseline, to require fulltime participation and it may require very limited travel within Europe for certain activities.
