We are currently looking for a university graduated engineer, with a relevant experience with design, development and integration of operational ground systems providing 24 x 7 services to support our customer in the definition and integration of the data handling and product processing systems for the new and existing EARS EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service services. The position approximately starts in EUMETSAT on the 01st of April 2014 Operational Ground System Software and Systems EngineerJ2758 Responsibilities Duties The Engineer shall be responsible for software and system engineering tasks. In this area of work, the tasks will typically include Analysis of the operational requirements for the EARS services Support to the definition and integration of the data handling and product processing systems for the new EARS services Technical liaison with the international partners providing the software packages for product processing of the satellite instrument data, including identification of test data and test environment Architectural and detailed design, implementation, testing and support of the EARS related software and applications Support the delivery of software externally developed, its installation, configuration and testing Support to the coordination and definition of technical interfaces with the external partners and service providers supporting EARS Support to the definition of EARS system evolution activities. Coordination of their implementation with relevant EUMETSAT teams and external partners Preparation of design documentation and other relevant documentation Verification and validation of software and systems, including the preparation of test plans, test procedures, test data and test tools Support to the configuration management of the EARS systems Support to the maintenance and evolution of the operational EARS system, in particular in response to the availability of new versions of the operational product processing packages and other key software packages Preparation, validation and maintenance of EARS maintenance and operational procedures and technical documentation Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary. Furthermore, the Engineer shall provide support to the operations of the EARS services. In this area of work the tasks will typically include Support the coordination and announcement of system changes to the operational system with the relevant teams in Operations and Services to Users Department and the Technical and Scientific Support Department When relevant raise, investigate and coordinate the resolution of anomalies with appropriate modifications or developments Provide support and guidance to the relevant teams in the Operations and Services to Users Department, in particular regarding system operations and product processing aspects When relevant, provide User Service with information required by Users about services, including documentation and replies to User queries. Qualifications Experience University degree in a relevant discipline Several years of experience with design, development and integration of operational ground systems providing 24 x 7 services Essential Skills The Engineer shall have a significant work experience in the Linux and UNIX SVR4 SUN Solaris, IBM AIX Operating System environments, and should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with networking, distributed applications, TCPIP services and Web services. Knowledge and experience of the following is mandatory At least 3 years of experience with design, development and integration of operational ground systems providing 24 x 7 services In depth knowledge of and experience with the Java programming language In depth knowledge of Linux operating system scripting languages, preferable PERL, KSHCSH and bash In depth knowledge of XML In depth knowledge of the development and maintenance of web interfaces and services using Tomcat and Apache in a UNIX environment Source Code control system, preferably SubVersion Configuration Control Formalised Software Testing System verification and validation The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and obtain a system overview. The work of the Team covers the areas of Electrical Ground Support Equipment EGSE, databases, simulation benches, including those used in software validation facilities and spacecraft AIT, ground data processing systems and ground facilities software in general. More specifically it covers Tasks and Responsibilities Modelling of systems including spacecraft, ground segment and other required auxiliary systems. Elaboration, development and promotion of tools for distributed and collaborative engineering. Support for mission simulation, science operations planning and scheduling and experiment operations verification. Elaboration, development and promotion of the concept of generic simulation testbeds such as ATB, applicable for different projects, including preparation and promotion of relevant standards. Realtime simulation infrastructure and tools based on different platforms, including LINUX environments. This infrastructure can support both hardwareintheloop and manintheloop simulation. Support to ESA project teams in activities related to the procurement of EGSE for space systems, subsystems and instruments including preparation of requirement specifications, monitoring of industrial activities, acceptance of industrial products and participation in project reviews. Support to ESA project teams in activities related to the development of space system database software and utilization including support to specification, architecture, implementation, software problem solving, exchange and interfaces with external systems, data modelling verification of consistency and completeness of data, compliance with technical documentation, project reviews. Visualisation and graphical user interaction on different levels, including MMI design, parameter visualization, and up to highend 3D realtime, interactive and immersive visualisation systems, also known as Virtual Reality VR simulation. Develop, integrate and maintain VR applications and the related technology. Maintenance of the EGSE SCOS based reference facility and Space System Database reference facility to support prototyping of new technology standards validation and evaluation of industrial methods and tools. Participation in the definition of standards for ground system and operations, electrical test facilities and modelling and simulation in the context of ECSS and ESA internal standardisation. Experience and education University degree in electronic engineering, Space systems engineering, computer science, Mathematics or equivalent. Several years of relevant experience within software engineering, software design and configuration control methods, tools and standards. Knowledge of realtime software and Object Oriented design methods, databases and most common operating system Windows, Corba, Linux, Unix, etc. Knowledge of Space Systems and Space System Engineering. Knowledge and experience in most common programming languages in particular C, C, FORTRAN, Java, databases ORACLE, ACCESS, MySQL, ER, etc.. At least 4 years or relevant working experience in the field.
