Unit prices of European clothing imports have less risen in dollar terms in the third quarter from a few origins, including Bangladesh, partly due to currency variations. As a result, shipments have rebounded to the European Union whereas China's exports were slowing down by contrast. As usual, results are very different, depending on product categories and origins. Our series of comparison tables offer a comprehensive view of EU clothing imports per HS 4-digit category with volume, value and unit price changes, while market shares are also calculated for each major supplying country. Sri Lanka garment exports show signs of recovery

Sri Lankan apparel and textile export earnings have fallen 1.5% during the first eight months of 2017, despite an improvement in clothing shipments to the US and European Union markets.

Unit prices of US apparel imports have continued dropping in the first three quarters this year, with however sharp differences depending on product categories and origins. The average export price has for instance more declined in China than in most other countries. US buyers have also been able to cut the prices of products from many other origins, although less dramatically. This is clearly reflected by our series of statistical tables offering a comprehensive comparison of unit values per origin and product category. The report also includes a detailed comparison of Chinese price trends vs other origins, through a series of indexes. Our full table is available for download.

Sri Lanka opens first of 150 mini apparel factories

The first of 150 "mini" garment factories has opened in a Sri Lankan village originally set up for displaced people, as part of a US$1.8m national apparel initiative implemented by the Government.
