RHEA is currently recruiting an ISS Payloads Operations Ground Segment Engineer to support the Head of the Ground Segment Maintenance and Operations Section at our clients premises in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Towards PL Integration Managers PIMs Participation in reviews of payloads under development with major GS implications, such as ASIM, etc., and follow up of the implementation of new components of the USOC Ground Infrastructure in line with the development of future payloads and experiments. Support to feasibility assessments, payload testing, Identification of GS changes for the new payloads and experiments. Towards Increment Management and Preparation Interpretation of Increment Requirements Document into implementable tasks to be given to the GS service contractors and to USOCs. Described in the GS Blank Book. GS Integrated schedule maintenance for ground segment related aspects Provide support to the Certification of Flight Readiness process by checking CoFR certificates from USOCs and PL support by the GS service for completeness and consistency Towards USOCs Support to the head of mission operations in the daytoday management of the USOC contracts, with particular emphasis on ground segment aspects Organisation of the process and the reviews leading to USOC Infrastructure Readiness Review and provision of comments to Ground Segment PIRNs on ICDs between the USOCs and ColCC and Management of development and maintenance of USOC ICD with external User sites e.g. UHB Follow up the performance of ground operations during routine operations, identification of problems and support to the specification of corrective actions Coordination and Support to USOC Operational readiness Tests Monitoring of USOC implementation, configuration status and documentation progress for GS matters Participation to the GS Coordination meetings with industry, the GS Control Board, the USC management meetings, and increment preparation meetings JMMT, FA, ICMs, ORRs. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in an engineering discipline Minimum 4 years of experience working on the International Space Station programme is required Strong knowledge of Ground Segment processes and systems for spaceflight Able to work in teams with other ESA organizations, e.g. Increment managers, Mission Operations manager, as well as with external partners Experience in the area of Ground Segment development and maintenance Some knowledge of Payload Operations in Columbus and in other segments of ISS. Tasks and Responsibilities Generic tasks native to Software Development and Maintenance Develop and maintain modules, applications and tools specific to product generation framework and quality control framework Ensure timely delivery of SW releases and relative increments Perform SW architectural design as needed Prepare and maintain SW documentation Develop and maintain unit test harnesses Report on progress and problem areas Participate in the Configuration Control Boards applicable to the development Followingup and tracking the correction and resolution of problem reports Implement approved software enhancement requests. Tasks specific to Support of Solar Orbiter SOC Development and Maintenance Develop, implement and maintain the science operations planning system Develop, implement and maintain a low latency data production system integrating data processing pipelines supplied by the Principal Investigators Develop, implement and maintain the auxiliary data productions system Support the archiving of science data products provided by the Principal Investigators Organise development tasks as needed. Tasks specific to validation and operation of the Solar Orbiter SOC system Deploy and configure new versions of the SOC subsystems Test and validate new deliveries of software, including regression testing Test and validate external deliveries of data processing pipelines Report on progress and problem areas Participates in the Configuration Control Boards applicable to the development and maintenance Communicate with SOC team at ESAC and experts in the Principal Investigator teams. Free interaction is expected with the members of the Solar Orbiter Data Analysis Working Group DAWG and with software engineers in the Principal Investigator teams. Frequent interactions are expected to take place with the SOC manager, the SOC team members and within the team of other working on Solar Orbiter. Also, frequent interactions are expected to take place with the Computers Support Group and the Science Archives Team at ESAC. Requirements The Key Person should possess a university background in a scientific or technical subject and relevant professional experience of at least 5 years in software development. In particular, possess the following experience, knowledge and proficiency in ECSS standards for software development Software architecture and design Ability to understand the different subsystems as a whole integrated systems Virtual machine management and configuration Software repositories Subversion, GIT Databases and data processing Scientific data formats used by the Heliophysics and Space Physics communities FITS, CDF Data processing pipelines in solar system or astronomy space projects Modern programming languages CC, Java, Python Scripting languages Operating system in common use in Heliophysics and space science linuxUnixMacOS, Windows Coordination of a small team of software developers. Experience in interacting with the science community and good interpersonal communication skills would be an advantage. The Key Person must be willing to work in a team environment and to travel. The Key Person should be comfortable in an international working environment and be fluent in written and spoken English, one of the official languages of ESA.
