EC withdraws roaming fair-use proposal on Juncker's order
2016-09-09 11:47:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The European Commission announced that it's withdrawing its proposal for the fair-use limits on free roaming in the EU, just days after it was first issued. In a brief statement, the EC said the proposal was withdrawn at the order of Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the Commission. A reason for the withdrawal, and details on when a new proposal would be provided were not given. The EC had aimed to have the regulation on the fair-use policy passed by the end of this year, in time for operators to prepare for the end of all roaming surcharges in the EU in Jun 2017.

After a long, laborious process and a lot of scraping paint splotches from the floor, the office space in my new apartment is ready for me, and I will soon no longer need to write this column from my kitchen table. So, I'm in the market for a desk. With my nascent interest in standing desks, the Gaze Desk seems a decent option. It switches between standing and seated modes with a button press.

Australia to consider wholesale roaming obligation
2016-09-05 10:38:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission announced plans to consider imposing a wholesale domestic mobile roaming service, in order to help improve coverage in rural areas. The regulator said it's received a growing number of inquiries about the issue, including from representatives from regional Australia, the Regional Telecommunications Review Committee, Infrastructure Australia and the House of Representatives Agriculture Committee. The announcement comes alongside the release an issues paper by the ACCC on a separate, but parallel market study into the communications market as a whole.
