Telia abandons roaming charges in Nordic, Baltic countries

(Telecompaper) Swedish operator Telia announced that customers will no longer pay roaming fees when traveling in the Nordic and Baltic countries. In what the operator claims is a first in the region, national rates will apply for all calls, SMS, MMS and data from 17 December made in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. This includes all mobile and broadband subscribers, both businesses and consumers. All customers will benefit from the change automatically and pay the same rates as under their national plan.

Last August, Telstra's new chief executive Andy Penn said that he and his executive team "would do what we need to do" to ensure that the group maintained dominance in mobiles, a business that raked in 41 per cent of Telstra's revenue in the year to June. "If that impacts margins, well, that's what will happen," Penn added.
