Telia Norway starts offering home 5G wireless broadband, beginning in Trondheim

(Telecompaper) Telia said it has become the first operator in Norway to start offering fixed wireless access (FWA) to 5G as standard broadband for the home. The service has begun in Trondheim before being phased in to other parts of the country that have 5G reception, depending on customer interest. Pal Rune Kaalen, head of private market affairs at the operator, said the service should be attractive to customers still served via the copper network, which is gradually being dismantled.

TPG sells Astound Broadband for USD 8.1 billion, including USD 4.5 billion worth of debt

(Telecompaper) Private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners (Stonepeak) has agreed to buy Astound Broadband, the sixth largest US cable operator in the US, for USD 8.1 billion. TPG, another private equity firm, started looking for buyers for Astound earlier this fall. It acquired RCN and Grande for USD 2.25 billion in 2016 and a year later bought Wave Broadband in a USD 2.37 billion deal.

Starlink invites users to public beta of satellite broadband service

(Telecompaper) The SpaceX satellite internet service Starlink has started inviting people in the US to join its public beta test. The broadband service will cost USD 99 a month, plus USD 499 for the equipment in the 'Better Than Nothing Beta' test, according to email images seen by CNBC.
