Austria starts tender for mobile broadband spectrum

(Telecompaper) Austrian telecom control commission TKK has published a tender for the allocation of spectrum in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands. This signals the start of the multi-band auction scheduled for September 2013. A total of 28 frequency blocks of 2x5 MHz each are available. The TKK is reserving two 800 MHz frequency blocks for a new market player. This new entrant will also be able to take over base station sites, buy 2.6 GHz spectrum and use national roaming. The TKK has set minimum bids of EUR 526 million for the spectrum, including EUR 45.6 million for the spectrum reserved for a new market player.

NSN plans bond issue, sees flat mobile broadband market

(Telecompaper) Nokia Siemens Networks has announced plans to issue EUR 600 million in senior notes. The proceeds of the offering will be used to prepay existing debt. The company said the notes will have terms and conditions commensurate with the high-yield nature of the debt. Nokia Siemens Networks has also published its annual report for 2012, providing details on its standalone business, separate from Nokia's accounts. This includes details on its two main divisions, mobile broadband and global services. The company also reiterated its long-term target for an adjusted operating margin of 5-10 percent. For 2013, NSN said it expects the mobile broadband market to be "relatively flat", compared to 2012.
