In the coming year activities in the area of applications will focus particularly on exploitation of data from the existing Sentinel missions as well as the preparation of the Copernicus evolution. Overview of the field of activity proposed Global food production must double by 2050 to meet the increasing nutritional demand of the growing world population. In parallel 70 of available freshwater is globally consumed by agriculture, in particular for crop irrigation. Consequently the geographical and temporal variability of water availability is increasingly becoming a limiting factor for agricultural productivity and with this a driver for food security. As part of the Copernicus evolution the high spatiotemporal Land Surface Temperature Monitoring LSTM mission is proposed to provide dynamic information on water use and productivity at field scales relevant for agricultural management. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the ESA website www.esa.int Fields of activitiesresearch The successful candidate will, in this context, conduct research in the following domains Investigate requirements for thermal EO observations for agricultural monitoring in the frame of the LSTM mission preparation Develop and validate evapotranspiration EO products at field scale resolution Demonstrate the use of Sentinel1, 2 and 3 observations for agricultural monitoring, in particular for yield estimation Participate in the development of products and applications related to EO for food security and water productivity in developing countries.
