Data Processing Image Quality Assessment Engineer

For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for a Data Processing Image Quality Assessment Engineer at EUMETSAT. Tasks The Key person shall work as a member of the Image Quality Assessment Team supporting the mediumterm and longterm monitoring, operation and further development of Level 1 data processing systems. The Key person shall support the quality assessment and validation of the Level 1 image products for current and future GEO missions but will also provide support to current and future LEO missions in this area. The tasks of the Key person will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Monitoring the mediumterm to longterm performance of Level 1 data processing systems, including the performance of their algorithms, and monitoring the quality of the generated Level 1 image products Developing and maintaining image quality assessment software, including the specification, verification and validation testing of software developments Supporting the further development of the MSG Level 1 data processing system, including the specification, verification and validation testing of system updates Supporting the investigation and correction of anomalies related to the performance of the MSGMTP Level 1 data processing systems Supporting the preparations for future GEO and LEO missions in the area of image quality assessment Attendance at technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have Extensive theoretical knowledge of Level 1 data processing algorithms for image navigation, registration and calibration and the techniques used for assessing the geometric and radiometric quality of Level 1 image products A minimum of 3 years experience in specifying, prototyping, verifying and validating Level 1 data processing algorithms A minimum of 3 years experience in the processing and analysis of data from imaging andor sounding instruments on remote sensing spacecraft Significant experience of validating remote sensing products and complex remote sensing data processing systems. Software engineering, in particular in algorithm software development, in a Unix environment using CC, and ideally also Python and MatlabIDL Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification. Tasks and Activities Your primary tasks and activities may include Support for the definition and preparation of the Implementation Plans, Technical Specification and all contractual documentation of the following PDGS facilities Operational processors Data Quality Control Facility Calibration Suite Aeolus Calibration and Monitoring Facility ACMF Support to the definition of monitoring baselines for Aeolus products, Support to the definition of Quality Control baselines for Aeolus products, Support for algorithm definition and reviews through interaction with the instrument experts to refine algorithms and calibration strategies, Support to the definition of the utilization of data from the space segment level testing and to the definition of space to ground interface tests for the processors, Support to the management of the industrial procurement for the following PDGS facilities Operational processors Data Quality Control Facility Calibration Suite Aeolus Calibration and Monitoring Facility ACMF Participation to the ADMAeolus Mission Advisory Groups, Support to the acceptance of the CFI items provided by the project, Interaction with PDGS team on PDGS architectural design and specification of its elements, Participation to PDGS coordination meetings including risk management, Participation, whenever required, to GS coordination meetings involving the ADMAeolus project team, PDGS and FOS, Review of documentation from various sources ESA, Industry, during the various project phases including generation of review item discrepancies, Management of the review item discrepancies, software problem reports and action databases for the following PDGS facilities Operational processors Data Quality Control Facility Calibration Suite Aeolus Calibration and Monitoring Facility ACMF Support to the management and execution of the PDGS testing and integration and GSOV activities, Support to the execution of commissioning activities, Generation of technical notes whenever needed during the project lifetime, In addition, Support for the management of the ADMAeolus algorithm, calibration and quality activities and for the management of the Quality Working Group during Phase E2, Support investigation and troubleshooting related to ADMAeolus products, Support ADMAeolus communication activities e.g. web stories, ESA publications, organization of workshops, contributing to the preparation of presentations and reports for international conferences and workshops. Skills and Experience You must possess the following skills and experience Experience in Instrument and Data monitoring, Experience in Quality Control of data, Experience in operational processors development, Experience in Calibration activities, Experience in Project Management, Good understanding of and background in LIDAR technology andor Numerical Weather Prediction is considered an asset, Fluent English language oral and written, Autonomy in writing technical notes, specifications and reports in English, Good interpersonal skills and team spirit, Previous working experience in a multinational environment is desirable, Knowledge of MatLab The MathWorks, Inc is considered an asset, University degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level?
