GSMA swaps MWC21 Barcelona and Shanghai dates

(Telecompaper) Mobile industry association GSMA has decided to reschedule the dates of its Mobile World Congress (MWC) shows in Barcelona and Shangai to contend with the Covid-19 pandemic. In a statement, the GSMA said MWC21 Shanghai will now take place from 23 to 25 February 2021, with MWC21 Barcelona scheduled for 28 June to 01 July 2021. The aim is to hold the GSMA's biggest event MWC21 Barcelona as a physical event, albeit with "virtual elements to complement the overwhelming demand to convene physically," said the industry body.

Vendors commit to GSMA network equipment security scheme

(Telecompaper) The GSMA confirmed that mobile network equipment vendors Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia and ZTE have successfully completed an assessment of their product development and lifecycle management processes using the industry body's Network Equipment Security Assurance Scheme (NESAS). The NESAS scheme is jointly led by 3GPP and the GSMA and is open to all vendors of network equipment products that support 3GPP-defined functions with a view to providing a security assurance framework that improves security levels and transparency across the mobile industry.

GSMA to cut 20% of staff after MWC cancellation leads to revenue shortfall

(Telecompaper) The mobile industry association GSMA is cutting around 20 percent of its staff, after it was forced to cancel its biggest event of the year. The Mobile World Congress, normally held in February in Barcelona, was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus outbreak, leading to a significant drop in revenue for the GSMA.
