We are looking for a Microwave Instrument System Engineer E3 to join our Modis Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands. Specific tasks to be performed The duties of the Contractor are performed in liaison with a team of microwave instrument system engineers in the Future Missions and Instruments Division EOP8M for the preparation of future ESA Earth Observation missions, in particular for new Earth ExplorerEarth Watch missions, Copernicus Sentinels, operational meteorology missions, Missions of Opportunity, Fsats and Scout missions. They include Developmentacquisition, validation and maintenance of performance assessment tools for various spaceborne microwave instruments encompassing both active radars and passive radiometers instruments. Translation of missionobservation requirements to instrument requirements improvement and maintenance of data processing tools. Performance Assessment of active and passive microwave instruments during the study phases 0, A, B1. Participation in the preparation and monitoring of instrument system and technology predevelopment studies together with industry. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required University Masters degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or Physics with background in Microwave Engineering or electromagnetics theory. At least 4 years of experience in a similar position. A good endtoend instrument system understanding of microwave radar andor radiometers. Demonstrated experience in the theoretical derivation and software implementation of instrument performance models A good understanding of digital signal processing techniques. General understanding of the modelling of wave interactions with the atmosphere and surface scattering. Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule. Practical experience relevant to the tasks described above is an asset. Good familiarity with programming languages and computer programs such as Python, MatLAB, ADS, Excel, etc. Proficient in the English language spoken and written. The Candidate should ideally have at least 4 years of relevant professional experience. A good endtoend instrument system understanding of microwave radar andor radiometers. First experience in instrument system and performance modelling as well as digital signal processing techniques. General understanding of the modelling of wave interactions with the atmosphere and surface scattering. Practical experience relevant to the tasks described above is an asset. Good familiarity with programming languages and computer programs such as Python, MatLAB, ADS, Excel, etc. Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule. Proficient in the English Language Spoken and Written. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday. Location Rome Task description In the frame of the design phases, to support the definition of payload PL functional and performance requirements by performing the required analyses and assessments. Definition, implementation and maintenance of models and software tools for simulating the PL functionalities and main performances. Definition, implementation and maintenance of PL RF budgets. Definition of PL command and control interface. Definition, implementation and maintenance of PL related Link Budgets as applicable. Contribution to definition of Payload architectures.
