Hutchison and Cellnex confirm 'advanced talks' over EUR 10 bln tower asset sales

(Telecompaper) CK Hutchison, the parent company of mobile operator 3 Group, has confirmed recent reports that it is in advanced negotiations regarding the sale of its European mobile tower business to Spanish operator Cellnex Telecom, already Europe's largest mobile towers company. In a statement, CK Hutchison said it has reached "substantial agreement" on the key commercial terms for the disposal of the telecommunications infrastructure assets in Europe held indirectly by its CK Hutchison Group Telecom Holdings subsidiary to Cellnex. It added that total proceeds on completion of the transactions would amount to around EUR 10 billion, including minority partners' shares.

Cellnex in advanced talks to acquire EUR 9 bln Hutchison tower business - report

(Telecompaper) Spanish infrastructure operator Cellnex Telecom is in advanced negotiations to acquire CK Hutchison's European mobile tower business for around EUR 9 billion, according to unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg. Cellnex is already Europe's largest towers company and has recently agreed to acquire 7,000 Polish cites from France's Iliad Group to increase its portfolio to 73,000 towers in 9 countries by the end of H1 2021. CK Hutchison and Cellnex have been in talks since at least July, when Bloomberg reported that the Hong Kong-based conglomerate was considering the sale of a minority stake in its European towers unit.

Hutchison wins appeal against EU decision blocking O2-3 UK merger

(Telecompaper) The EU's Court of Justice has overturned the European Commission's decision to block the merger of O2 UK and 3 UK in 2016. Following an appeal from 3 UK's parent company CK Hutchison, the court found the Commission did not prove sufficiently that the merger would have a negative effect on competition.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia to launch first 5G sites within weeks

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) has announced it will switch on its first 5G sites within weeks. VHA Chief Executive Officer Inaki Berroeta says the operator is moving forward following the Federal Court's recent ruling on the VHA-TPG Telecom merger. "We are very excited to be pushing ahead with our plans for 2020 by delivering our first 5G sites within weeks, with the initial rollout to continue throughout the year", Berroeta said. These will be the first of over 650 5G sites in progress. VHA plans to deploy "several thousand sites" over the coming years.
