LSE Space is looking for an experienced Engineer mf in order to fulfill the duty of Desktop Engineering ConsultancySupport for our customer EUMETSAT in DarmstadtGermany. The position will support the Corporate ICT function that refers to the Information and Communication Technology systems, services and infrastructure, which are employed by EUMETSAT for support of its administrative activities. This environment is distinct from the one used for the operation of satellites or distribution of data products. The corporate ICT environment supports the generic office computing needs of EUMETSAT. It does not support any of the satellite control and operations activities nor satellite product generation and distribution, which are based on a separate, dedicated infrastructure. The major elements of the EUMETSAT corporate ICT environment are the user desktopslaptops and standard office applications the data centre MS file print servers, MS Windows application servers the Email and GroupWare System MS Exchange 2007 the network infrastructure LAN including network security and Internet connectivity. The clients are MSWindows 7 desktop and notebook systems running MSOffice 2007 professional plus additional COTS applications. The clients are deployed using Windows Deployment Services and software is distributed using ZENworks Configuration Management 11 ZCM. There are about 80 networked printers and combined printercopiers, mainly from Ricoh. The following activities shall be performed prepare, validate and execute the deployment of Windows 7 desktop systems using Microsoft Deployment Services prepare, validate and execute the distribution of software applications and upgrades to desktops using the ZENworks Configuration Management 11 Software Distribution system prepare, validate and execute the distribution of software patches using WSUS monitor and report on software license usage, maintaining the software license inventory operate and maintain the antivirus management infrastructure based on Symantec Endpoint Protection ensure that all systems are having the latest virus patterns analyse users needs and provide input for the procurement of software applications or for upgrading the existing ones provide second and third level user and technical support for user applications and desktops contribute to the procurement of licenses by providing specifications and performing price inquiries, as well as act as interface with software suppliers regarding procurement, warranty and maintenance issues maintain a verification and validation environment to verify and validate software updates and rollouts maintain system design and operations documentation. In the performance of these tasks, the key person shall apply the ICT working practices for o quality management o configuration and change control o system operations and maintenance. Qualifications Experience proven 5 years of experience as IT Desktop Engineer in a demanding computingenvironment. experience in deploying systems using Windows Deployment Toolkit experience in using Novell ZENworks Configuration Management 11 to package and distribute office applications experience in using WSUS to deploy Microsoft and custom built patches extensive knowledge of administering and deploying office packages e.g. MS Office, MS Visio, MS Project, financial and technical applications demonstrated experience in installing, administering Windows 7 desktops experience in operating a managed antivirus system like Symantec Endpoint Protection experience in managing desktops using Microsoft Group Policy experience in using Visual Basic scripting. In addition, the following aspects shall be considered an advantage knowledge of and experience in administering MS Active Directory experience in a structured, ISO 9000 certified project and service environment knowledge of change and configuration management fundamentals and principles knowledge of ITIL. Academic and work related requirements A University degree in an engineering discipline is required. Perfect command of English, verbal and written. Knowledge of French would be an asset. The position will provide engineering consultancy support for the evolution and maintenance of the EUMETSAT spacecraft simulators Systems with the need to have a deep knowledge of the SIMULUS software suite from ESAESOC but with enough level of spacecraft simulator modelling engineering expertise allowing to support spacecraft simulators implemented with other technologies after a relative short learning period. The work covers the support to routine operations for existing missions e.g. EPS and MSG, coming missions such as Copernicus Sentinel3 and other future missions such as Meteosat Third Generation MTG, JASONCS and EPS Second Generation EPSSG. The key person shall work in the Mission Control Applications and Tools MCAT Team within the GSI Division in the TSS Department. The following activities shall be performed Software engineering and software maintenance of multimission and missionspecific Mission Control Function systems and tools for GEO and LEO missions. In particular the following systems and tools o Monitoring Control Systems and tools, o Onboard software management tools, o Flight Dynamics Facilities, o Mission Planning Facilities, o OpsPrep Facilities, o Data analysis and reporting tools. Software engineering for the reusage of Mission Control Function systems and tools with the separation between generic kernel and missionspecific extensions. Automation of application software testing. Software engineering and software maintenance of satellite simulators. Ground Segment Reference Architecture. Software support to operations. Qualifications Experience Required Domain Skills Experience minimum 3 years in software maintenance and evolution of Spacecraft Simulators based on SIMULUS software suite from ESAESOC. In particular, experience in all the following SIMULUS components is considered mandatory SIMSAT, Ground Models, Generic Models, REFA, Emulator Suite and tailoring, UMFEGOSMF. Experience minimum 3 years in the definition and design of SMP2 compliant software models of spacecraft service platform subsystems. Knowledge and understanding of space related standards ECSS and CCSDS with specific reference to ECSSE7041A TM and TC packet utilization. Software Development Maintenance Skills Experience minimum 3 years in the full cycle of development of application software for SIMULUS based simulator, following formal software engineering processes. This includes system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design and implementation reflecting maintenance activities as well as new applications definition. Experience minimum 3 years in corrective maintenance, integration and verification testing activities of application software following formal software engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, and anomaly tracking, investigation, correction and testing. Experience in defining automatic testing suites at unit and components integration level. Software Engineering Skills Experience minimum 3 years in developing and maintaining software applications using Java and C programming languages under UNIX operating systems and development and maintenance of JavaScript scripts SIMULUS scripting technology. Experience minimum 3 years in developing and maintaining software applications using objectoriented technologies, Unified Modelling Language UML for software design and CASE design tools like Magic Draw. An asset would be Domain Skills Experience with MICONYS ESOC components SCOS2000, NIS and SLE API. Experience on TMTC front ends like CORTEX Experience with software support to operations and in particular to TMTC database and OBSW images import System Maintenance Skills Experience with technical management of contractors working at offsite premises and responsible for application software evolution and maintenance. Software Technology Skills IBM DOORS requirement management tool. Experience in version Control Systems CVS and SVN. Linux Operating System. Interprocess communication mechanisms, in particular TCPIP and CORBA standards. XML processing schema design and validation. Eclipse Rich Client Platform applications development and maintenance. Experience with static and dynamic software analysis tools in support to testing and troubleshooting.
