US apparel imports have collapsed in May, as a result of the lockdown imposed by many countries and by a series of US states. Vietnam has become the largest supplier in value terms over the January-May period, whereas Bangladesh has also benefited from China's setback. Our report covers US apparel imports on a monthly basis, comparing shipments from most origins in the last month and the year-to-date. Import data are available in volume, value, and unit value terms. Historical trends are analyzed over the 2000-2020 period, including cotton vs. man-made fiber apparel, and China vs. Vietnam and the Rest of the World (RoW).

Emerging currencies have been firm in June, due to the weakness of the American dollar. Over the first six months of the year, most low-cost currencies have experienced a significant fall, however. Our monthly statistical report covers the past two years and displays a comprehensive view of currency values against the US dollar but also compared with the euro, the British pound, the Indian rupee, the Pak. Rupee, and the Chinese renminbi over the last three years.

Polyester fiber and yarn prices have slightly declined in June, in China, India, and Pakistan. The gross margins have also dropped at spinning mills, moving into different directions over the last three months, however. Our monthly report compares polyester staple fiber prices and polyester spun yarn prices in China, India, and Pakistan, in both local currency terms and US$ terms. The gross margins of spinners are also calculated. Historical data back to 2007 are available for download.
