LG mobile revenues fall 23% in Q3, shipments down 9%
2016-10-27 08:47:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) LG Electronics reported sales from its mobile phone business down 23 percent year-on-year in the third quarter to KRW 2.52 trillion (USD 2.3 billion). The company blamed the lower sales on a weak performance for top models like the G5 and price pressure in the smartphone market. Total smartphone shipments fell 9 percent year-on-year and were 3 percent lower versus Q2 at 13.5 million. The lower sales of premium devices and costs for restructuring led to a quarterly operating loss of KRW 436.4 billion in mobile.

Dutch fixed telephony revenues fall 2.5% in Q2
2016-09-14 10:00:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The fixed telephony market in the Netherlands continued to contract in the second quarter, with revenues falling to EUR 280 million, according to Telecompaper's latest Dutch Fixed Telephony Market report. The 2.5 percent quarterly decline was an improvement on the 4.6 percent drop during the first quarter. The drop in revenues, underway since 2013, is due to lower usage and falling prices. The number of fixed telephony connections in the Netherlands was stable at almost 6.3 million at the end of Q2, as a 5 percent decrease in PSTN lines was compensated by 0.5 percent growth in digital phone lines. Digital lines reached nearly 5.6 million on 30 June 2016. The strongest growth in the quarter came from VoIP users on fibre networks, which increased by 4.2 percent compared to March to around 866,000.

Oi revenues fall 3.8% in Q2, EBITDA drops 24%
2016-08-11 16:54:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Brazilian operator Oi, under judicial reorganization, ended the second quarter of 2016 with net revenue of BRL 6.52 billion, down 3.8 percent on the same period in 2015 and 3.4 percent less than in Q1 2016. The operator had a net loss from continuing operators of BRL 656 million in the quarter, widening from a loss of BRL 442 million a year earlier. EBITDA fell 24.4 percent to BRL 1.43 billion, and capex amounted to BRL 1.21 billion, an increase of 16.7 percent from a year ago.
Apple revenues fall 15%, as iPhone, China sales drop
2016-07-26 22:46:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Apple reported revenues of USD 42.2 billion for its fiscal third quarter to June, down from USD 49.6 billion a year ago and towards the high end of its outlook of USD 41-43 billion. The company's gross margin dipped to 38 percent from 39.7 percent in the year-earlier period, also coming in at the end of expectations. Net profit fell to USD 7.8 billion or USD 1.42 per share, from USD 10.7 billion or USD 1.85 per share. Apple CEO Tim cook said the results "reflect stronger customer demand and business performance than anticipated at the start of the quarter" and a successful launch of the iPhone SE. The launch of the cheaper iPhone led to a 23 percent year-on-year drop in revenues from smartphones to USD 24.0 billion, on a 15 percent fall in unit sales to 40.4 million. Compared to the previous quarter, iPhone revenues fell 27 percent and unit sales were down 21 percent.
